NRM MP Aspirant’s Husband Brutally Killed In NRM Primaries – Details Emerge On Why He Was Killed

The political atmosphere in Kamuli remains tense following the tragic shooting of Sowedi Egumbye, husband to Woman MP aspirant Sarah Auma.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night, just hours before the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s primaries, raising alarm over the conduct and security of rural electoral processes.

According to police reports, Egumbye was fatally shot around 11:00 PM after a convoy allegedly linked to Auma’s campaign forcefully entered the residence of Buzaaya County MP Martin Muzaale.

The group is said to have rammed through the gate with a vehicle, prompting an emergency response by police forces.

Security personnel claimed they recovered machetes, hammers, and other weapons at the scene, suggesting a possible intent to provoke violence.

As the group reportedly attempted to flee, police fired at the vehicle’s tyres in an effort to stop them. Tragically, Egumbye was struck by a bullet and later died at Kamuli General Hospital.

A post-mortem was conducted as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continue.

Police have defended their actions, citing the late-night operation as a necessary response to what they described as a high-risk political intrusion.

The incident has drawn criticism from local leaders and civil society, who question the timing and proportionality of the police intervention.

There are also growing concerns about voter intimidation, electoral manipulation, and the militarization of political competition in rural Uganda.

Sarah Auma has not made a formal public statement, but sources close to her campaign expressed shock and accused authorities of political bias.

As Kamuli mourns, many are calling for a transparent investigation to ensure justice and restore public trust in Uganda’s democratic processes.
