Inside Story!! How Ex Speaker Anita Among Undermined Muhoozi, Offered Him Shs 3Billion To Shut Up
KAMPALA — PLU Secretary General and Kasambya County MP David Kabanda has laid bare what he describes as a long-running campaign by former Speaker Anita Among to undermine Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, accusing her of misreading the political balance inside Uganda’s ruling establishment for years.
In a lengthy interview with YouTuber John Bosco Kisitu, Kabanda reconstructed the public fallout that split him from Among, once a close ally. He argued that her skepticism toward Muhoozi — who serves as Chief of Defence Forces, Patriotic League of Uganda chairman, and President Yoweri Museveni’s son — was rooted in a wider tendency among senior figures to dismiss rising power centers before being forced to work with them later.
Kabanda drew a parallel to the 1980s, when many establishment figures scorned Museveni’s National Resistance Army and doubted its prospects, only to later take up ministerial and government posts after 1986. He claimed Among’s mistrust of Muhoozi was so pronounced that she once avoided any public association with him.
“Anita Among one time had to hide in room no 7 of Joyce Hotel in Mubende just to avoid being seen anywhere in public with or near Gen MK,” Kabanda said.
The rupture played out openly in Kabambya. Kabanda said he rejected pressure to name Among as guest of honor at a constituency event and instead invited Muhoozi. According to him, Among had traveled to Mubende expecting to headline the function and only changed course after confirming Muhoozi was already on the ground.
Kabanda said she had been persuaded by “fortune-hunting legislators” that her political stature eclipsed Muhoozi’s. When that assumption collapsed, he added, she “developed cold feet.”
He further alleged that Among, along with other NRM insiders, spent months convinced that Muhoozi and his father had broken ranks and become adversaries. That perception, Kabanda argued, left her wary of being linked to the CDF, whom she did not expect to wield decisive influence by May 2026.
“Kabanda corroborated his claim further by referencing on some of the influential actors in Anita Among’s universe, to demonstrate the extent to which the anti-MK sentiments had become widespread among the former Speaker’s loyalists,” the account continued. He cited a direct warning from Sheema Municipality MP Dickson Kateshumbwa shortly after Muhoozi was removed by the Commander-in-Chief from the office of Commander Land Forces.
Kabanda said he used social media to signal solidarity with the First Son after the reshuffle, posting messages of support and retweeting each one to amplify his stance. He said Kateshumbwa contacted him privately and urged him to keep his distance.
“Kabanda said he posted several solidarity messages on social media showing readiness to stand in solidarity with the First Son. Each time he tweeted something, Kabanda would retweet it and declare support. He says Kateshumbwa privately reached out and cautioned him to keep away from Gen MK if he didn’t want to invite the wrath of the President to himself. That he told him there was something fundamentally wrong and that the fired Land Forces Commander was soon going to be arrested and Court-martialed.”
Kabanda rejected the advice, insisting his loyalty to Muhoozi predated his relationship with Among by years. He framed the choice as one between a long-standing political bond and a newer alliance forged after his 2021 entry to Parliament.
“I assured him I wasn’t going to denounce or distance myself from Gen MK who I had known for such a long time simply because of Anita Among who I had just known after becoming an MP in 2021, a position I achieved because of Gen MK who I had known and closely worked with since the year 2014,” Kabanda said.
The remarks reignited tensions online last month when Kabanda publicly accused Kateshumbwa of having previously “demonized and belittled PLU while sheltering under Anita Among’s wings.” He said the confrontation left Kateshumbwa visibly distressed.
Kateshumbwa, according to Kabanda, then appealed for restraint on X, fearing reprisals similar to those faced by other critics such as Justine Nameere. Kabanda said he refused to de-escalate and told Kateshumbwa he “didn’t qualify to be his comrade.”
The exchange highlights deepening fault lines within NRM ranks as factions jostle for positioning ahead of the 2026 general elections. With Muhoozi’s political profile expanding through PLU and his military role, Kabanda’s narrative casts Among’s earlier posture as a miscalculation about where power would settle inside the Movement.
