Anita Among Is A Traitor Who Betrayed Everyone That Built Her, From Besigye, Mugisha Muntu to Kadaga – Kabanda Reveals
PLU Secretary General and Kasambya County MP David Kabanda has intensified his public criticism of former Speaker Anita Among, accusing his one-time political ally of repeatedly betraying those who supported her rise to prominence while insisting that he acted out of loyalty when he distanced himself from her.
Speaking during an interview with YouTuber John Bosco Kisitu, Kabanda argued that Among had no moral authority to brand him a traitor because, in his view, her own political journey had been marked by acts of disloyalty against former allies and benefactors.
Among the examples Kabanda cited was opposition veteran Dr. Kizza Besigye, whom he claimed had played a significant role in supporting Among during difficult periods of her life. According to Kabanda, Among had personally told him that Dr. Besigye continued providing financial assistance, including paying school fees for her son David Baguma Besigye, even after she had become a Member of Parliament and was financially stable.
Kabanda alleged that despite this support, Among later abandoned Dr. Besigye politically, first aligning herself with the camp of Mugisha Muntu before eventually joining President Yoweri Museveni’s side. These claims reflect Kabanda’s account and have not been independently verified.
He also pointed to Among’s past relationship with former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga as another example of what he described as betrayal. Kabanda claimed the two women once shared an exceptionally close bond, alleging that Kadaga was entrusted with sensitive responsibilities, including overseeing Among’s welfare during periods of illness. He further asserted that Among would personally care for Kadaga during hospital stays, demonstrating the depth of their relationship before political differences emerged.

Turning to his own fallout with the former Speaker, Kabanda defended his decision to publicly announce the withdrawal of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s support for Among at the Patriotic League of Uganda headquarters in Naguru. He maintained that his actions were driven by loyalty rather than personal ambition.
Kabanda explained that he had worked with Gen. Muhoozi since 2014 and credited him with helping pave the way for his election to Parliament in 2021. In those circumstances, he argued, siding with Among against the wishes of the PLU leader would have amounted to betraying a longstanding ally.
The legislator also revived his criticism of the electoral process in Bukedea District, reiterating his belief that a fresh Woman MP election should be conducted. Kabanda alleged that there had effectively been “no election” in the constituency during the January general elections and suggested that revisiting the outcome would be justified.
Although generally conciliatory toward newly appointed State Minister for Local Government Justin Nameere, Kabanda claimed she had previously been encouraged by Among to oppose Gen. Muhoozi’s preference for the election of Thomas Tayebwa Oboth-Oboth as Speaker. Those assertions remain Kabanda’s account of events.
Seeking to counter suggestions that his political activities are motivated by self-interest, Kabanda insisted he has never supported candidates for senior parliamentary offices in anticipation of personal rewards. He said that after helping secure Jacob Oulanyah’s victory in the race for Speaker, he never approached him seeking favors, and similarly has not sought benefits from the current Speaker since his election.
Kabanda also shared personal reflections on his relationship with Among, explaining why he had accepted being referred to as her “son.” He said the connection stemmed partly from similarities in family names, noting that his mother is named Annet while he shares the first name David with Among’s son, David Baguma Besigye.
Beyond domestic politics, Kabanda praised Buganda Katikkiro Peter Mayiga, describing him as the leader who inspires him most and outlining what he sees as Mayiga’s exemplary leadership qualities. He also expressed admiration for Kenyan President William Ruto.
Discussing Gen. Muhoozi’s personality, Kabanda portrayed him as humorous, humble and fiercely loyal to his associates. He argued that the PLU leader is often misunderstood because of his joking style and maintained that Muhoozi values honesty and carefully evaluates information presented to him, making him difficult to mislead.
The interview marks the latest chapter in the increasingly public fallout between Kabanda and Anita Among, exposing deep political divisions among figures who were once considered close allies.
