Augustine Otuko!! Champion of Grassroots Development Picks NRM Nomination for Ngariam County

Augustine Otuko, a seasoned political figure and respected mobilizer, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Ngariam County parliamentary seat under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) by picking up nomination forms for the upcoming party primaries.

Otuko, the former NRM Youth Chairman for Katakwi District and a former Private Secretary to the President in charge of Political Affairs, brings with him a wealth of experience in governance, mobilization, and grassroots development. His decision to contest is anchored in a long-standing commitment to improving the lives of the people of Ngariam and building a united, self-reliant community.

For over a decade, Otuko served at the NRM National Secretariat as a Research Officer in the Directorate of Mobilization. His work focused on policy research, political education, and nationwide grassroots mobilization. This role positioned him as a key architect of NRM’s outreach strategies and a trusted voice in advancing the party’s core values of service, sacrifice, and patriotism.

Otuko’s leadership has always extended beyond party structures. In his home county of Ngariam, he has championed local economic empowerment by providing farming tools and agricultural inputs such as hoes, maize seeds, cassava cuttings, and piglets. His agricultural interventions revitalized livelihoods in areas like Akoboi, Palam, and Ngariam. Notably, a popular cassava variety, Narocass 1, earned the nickname “otuko” in recognition of his efforts, with locals proudly referencing the impact he made.

His campaign is grounded in principles of transparency, accountability, and inclusive development. Otuko has consistently emphasized the need for honest leadership that prioritizes the public good over personal gain. In recent dialogues with youth, women, and boda boda riders in Aleles Parish, he advocated for economic empowerment and self-reliance through income-generating initiatives and enhanced food security.

Furthermore, Otuko has been outspoken about the importance of accountability in public fundraising, especially in initiatives supporting women’s SACCOs. He has called for clear documentation of funds raised and their intended use, advocating for greater oversight to protect community interests.

On broader district matters, such as the ongoing mineral surveys in Katakwi, Otuko has engaged national leadership—including Vice President Jessica Alupo—to ensure that the local population remains informed and involved. His proactive stance reinforces his belief in people-centered governance and transparent decision-making.

As the NRM primaries draw near, Augustine Otuko stands out as a candidate with both vision and experience. His unwavering dedication to community service, combined with a strong track record in national and local leadership, positions him as a transformative figure ready to lead Ngariam County into a future of prosperity, unity, and accountable representation.
