Anita Among’s Wealth Mystery Deepens After Naming Ham Kiggundu in Secret State Probe
Fresh details are continuing to emerge from the ongoing investigations surrounding outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, with reports now indicating that President Yoweri Museveni personally confronted her during a high-level meeting attended by former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and two senior bishops over allegations of corruption and unexplained wealth accumulation.
According to the latest online reports published by ChimpReports, President Museveni reportedly told the meeting that intelligence briefings reaching him showed growing public anger across the country, including within the armed forces and police ranks, over the lavish lifestyle allegedly associated with Anita Among at a time when many ordinary Ugandans are struggling to afford basic necessities.
Sources familiar with the discussions claim Museveni expressed concern that the situation was increasingly becoming politically dangerous for the ruling establishment, with frustration reportedly spreading among citizens who feel abandoned amid rising economic hardships.
During the tense meeting, Museveni allegedly turned directly to Anita Among and challenged her to explain the source of her wealth in the presence of the bishops.
“Our bishops are here, please tell them where you get all this money,” Museveni reportedly said.

According to the reports, Anita Among broke down emotionally and responded that much of the money came as donations from wealthy friends.
“Your Excellence, I get the money as donations from my rich friends,” she reportedly replied.
However, Museveni is said to have pressed further, questioning why such wealthy associates had allegedly not supported her financially before she became Speaker of Parliament and before aligning herself more closely with the ruling political establishment.
The president reportedly asked why these individuals had suddenly become generous only after her rise to one of the country’s most powerful offices.
Sources say Among denied being corrupt and attempted to explain that some of the money allegedly came from wealthy Ugandan businessmen, including city tycoons Hamis Kiggundu and Kirumira.
Museveni reportedly threatened to directly contact Kiggundu during the meeting to verify the claims. It was at that moment, according to accounts circulating online, that Anita Among allegedly changed tone, became emotional again, and pleaded with the president not to make the call.
“Sir please don’t call him, I’m going to tell the truth from today onwards,” she reportedly said while crying.
Individuals said to have been present at the meeting reportedly questioned whether any businessman would freely hand over such vast sums of money without expecting favors or influence in return. The meeting also reportedly raised concerns over why the alleged donations appeared to be directed specifically toward Anita Among and not other senior government officials.
Sources claim she was further asked to explain what prominent businessmen such as Hamis Kiggundu would potentially expect in exchange for such financial generosity. Reports indicate that Among allegedly struggled to respond and remained sobbing through parts of the discussion.
The latest developments come as investigators intensify operations linked to alleged illicit wealth accumulation involving the outgoing Speaker.
Detectives involved in the probe have told this publication that at least five sacks containing Ugandan shilling notes in Shs50,000 denominations, alongside bundles of United States dollars and Euros, were allegedly recovered during coordinated searches at multiple residences associated with Anita Among.
The properties under investigation are reportedly located across Kampala and Wakiso District.
Investigators attached to the operation told Daily Monitor that search teams recovered a wide range of electronic devices and materials believed to be relevant to the ongoing investigations.
The seized items reportedly included CCTV storage footage, mobile phones, laptop computers, computer tablets, smart watches, camera display televisions, and various digital storage devices.
Authorities also reportedly confiscated several motor vehicles, financial documents, company registration files, cheque books, land titles, cameras, and internet connection equipment during the searches.
According to detectives, the materials recovered are expected to serve as key exhibits in investigations centered on allegations of illicit enrichment, money laundering, abuse of office, and possible breaches of Uganda’s Leadership Code Act.
“This is a joint investigation led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (CID), other agencies like Defence Intelligence and Security (DIS), formerly CMI, police Crime Intelligence, Special Force Command Intelligence Directorate, and police Directorate of Forensic Services,” one detective reportedly said.

The first major operation reportedly took place at Anita Among’s residence in Nakasero, where heavily deployed security teams sealed off sections surrounding the property as investigators conducted an extensive search that lasted more than eight hours.
Residents and witnesses in the area reported seeing multiple security vehicles, plain-clothed operatives, and armed personnel moving in and out of the compound throughout the day and late into the night.
Access to the residence remained tightly restricted during the operation, with only a small number of authorized individuals reportedly allowed through security checkpoints.
By Sunday morning, most of the joint security teams had reportedly withdrawn from the area, although a smaller contingent of elite security personnel remained stationed near the main entrance of the residence.
Authorities have not yet formally detailed the full scope of the investigation. However, sources familiar with the operation say the searches are part of a wider probe reportedly sanctioned by President Museveni to investigate allegations of corruption and unexplained wealth accumulation linked to the outgoing Speaker.
The unfolding developments have already triggered intense public debate across Uganda’s political landscape, with many observers viewing the investigations as one of the most politically sensitive anti-corruption operations involving a high-ranking government official in recent years.
