Kawempe Muslim Secondary School dismisses gay student

The School Administration of Kawempe Muslim Secondary School has dismissed a student named Kiyingi Japhar Bashir over allegations of involvement in LGBT activities. The swirling controversy has stirred up fresh debate about whether the government must take steps to protect students from getting involved in these unnatural practices.

A source at the school who spoke to Kamunye reporters revealed that the said student, Kiyingi Japhar Bashir was fond of kissing fellow male students, a character that was totally unacceptable under the school’s rules and regulations.

“That boy (Kiyingi) has been acting very strange in my classes. I noticed how he was getting intimate with his classmate Mugerwa Juma and I had to notify the school headteacher Mr. Bruhane,” remarked Musa Buruhani Kakooza, a teacher of English at Kawempe Muslim Secondary School. “He was not behaving like a straight person. Our school rules and the national laws are very clear on what should be done to homosexuals. We are even being lenient that he has been dismissed without any physical harm but the teachings of the Sharia law prohibit homosexuality,” he added.

A student who spoke to this publication under the condition of anonymity said that the student was unremorseful when engaged by the teachers. “Kiyingi was unmoved by efforts to have him rehabilitated. He stood firm and insisted that he was born gay even when the biology teachers told him it was just a mental disorder that could be corrected by rehabilitation,” the student said. “Kiyingi was always sneaking into the dormitory to see his partner known as Juma. We had to report this habit to the school authorities because we found it very wierd and inappropriate,” the student added.

Our efforts to retrieve a comment from the school head teacher were unsuccessful as the repeated calls were unanswered. We successfully engaged the school secretary who informed us that ‘’I am busy but let me get back to you shortly.” And indeed she did not revert back.
