Yusuf Nsibambi To Become The Next Prime Minister – Secrets Leak On Why He Joined NRM

Outgoing Yusuf Nsibambi, the Member of Parliament for Mawokota South, has defended his decision to leave the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and join the National Resistance Movement (NRM), citing what he described as the collapse of internal structures and financial disorganization within his former party.

Nsibambi officially crossed to the ruling party on Tuesday and was received by the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, who welcomed him into the NRM fold. His defection adds to a growing list of opposition politicians who have recently shifted allegiance amid ongoing internal wrangles within the FDC.

Speaking shortly after his move, Nsibambi delivered a pointed critique of the party under which he has served, arguing that it had failed to meet basic organizational obligations to its candidates during the most recent electoral cycle.

“When Anita Among left, the FDC collapsed,” Nsibambi said. “This time, all FDC candidates were supposed to receive nomination fees, posters, facilitation, upkeep, and funds to cater for agents’ meals throughout the process. However, not a single penny was given to the agents.”

He suggested that the party’s inability to financially and logistically support its candidates signaled deeper structural problems. According to Nsibambi, the absence of facilitation for agents and campaign activities left candidates stranded and demoralized at a critical stage of the electoral process.

Nsibambi further pointed to internal fragmentation within the FDC, stating that multiple breakaway factions had weakened what was once one of Uganda’s strongest opposition platforms. “We have seen three parties emerge out of the FDC, and all of them have collapsed,” he said, characterizing the developments as evidence that the party had lost cohesion and direction.

While he did not detail the specific factions he was referring to, the FDC has in recent years faced public disputes among senior leaders, resulting in splinter groups and parallel structures that have fueled uncertainty about its leadership and strategy.

In contrast, Nsibambi praised the NRM for what he described as its stability and clear national agenda. He indicated that his decision to cross over was driven by a desire to align with a political organization he believes is better structured and positioned to deliver services to constituents.

Speaker Anita Among, in a statement posted after receiving him, welcomed Nsibambi’s move and framed it as an endorsement of the ruling party’s vision. “We hereby extend an official welcome to the Honourable Yusuf Nsibambi into the @NRMOnline family. We appreciate your recognition of the importance of our cause and your decision to join the movement dedicated to safeguarding and strengthening our nation’s achievements,” she said.

Nsibambi’s defection is expected to generate debate within both the opposition and the ruling party, particularly in Mawokota South, where voters will be watching closely to see how the shift impacts local political dynamics. For now, the outgoing MP has made it clear that he believes his political future — and that of his supporters — lies with the NRM rather than the embattled opposition party he once represented.
