Gay student beaten to pulp at Kajjansi progressive school
The atmosphere was tense at Kajjansi Progressive School on the evening of October 1st, 2022 after an angry mob of students beat up their peer to pulp on allegations of being a homosexual. The victim is Mr. Kiyingi Japhar Bashir, a Senior Five student who is said to be a prolific homosexual.
A source that witnessed the attack told this publication that the suspect was brutally beaten by the angry mob of students in the presence of teachers and the school administrators.
“What is appalling is how the teachers have enjoyed the battering and they even encouraged the students to mercilessly beat up Japhar in an inhumane way. I thought that even as a homosexual, Japhar has his fundamental right to life,” a student told this newspaper. “He sobbed and cried for his life but nobody was willing to listen to him. He was already considered guilty and had to be punished,” the student added.
Another school administrator who spoke to this paper and asked not to be named in fear of reprisals says the student was found to have had a record of being a homosexual and that he had been previously dismissed from his former school on the same allegations.
“That boy Japhar was dismissed from Kawempe Muslim Secondary School for engaging in homosexual activities. We found out upon being tipped that he had began acting strange before his fellow students,” the teacher said. “Some of his own neighbors confessed to us that Japhar acts strange and behaved way contrary to what is expected of a male adolescent,” he added.
Witnesses to the heinous incident informed this newspaper that the student was rushed to hospital with very severe injuries he sustained from the mob attack.
“His head was bruised and his parents were notified later after the heinous incident,” testified a student. “All the teachers were just spectators who enjoyed the horror,” added the student.
We tried to engage the school administrators who all shied away from speaking to us. The area police confirmed the incident but did not divulge their details.
