Uganda Celebrates Museveni’s Win: Calls for Wealth, Unity, and Accountability

Kampala — Thousands of Ugandans gathered at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Friday for a vibrant celebration known as “Yoga Yoga Jajja,” commemorating President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s re-election in the January 2026 general elections.

The Independent Electoral Commission announced that Museveni secured 7,946,772 votes, equivalent to 71.65 percent of the ballots, extending his leadership of the country for another term. The Kololo gathering combined prayer, music, testimonies, and political commentary, attracting supporters from across Uganda.

Senior government officials, religious leaders, and community representatives were among those present, coming together not only to celebrate the election victory but also to reflect on national development priorities.

President Museveni calls for wealth creation

Addressing the crowd alongside First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataaha Museveni, President Museveni expressed gratitude to Ugandans for their continued support and urged citizens to focus on economic productivity, national cohesion, and transparency in public programs.

“You have heard of our sister Aminah Mukalazi. She is celebrating the political victory, but she is also reminding everybody to work and create wealth in their homes,” the President said, highlighting the efforts of Aminah Mukalazi, Head of the State House Local Content Unit, who organised the event.

Museveni emphasised that Uganda’s long-term transformation hinges on citizens engaging in productive work, particularly in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, services, and information and communication technology.

“The issue of wealth and job creation is very important. Every adult in Uganda should ensure that he or she is engaged in productive work,” he noted.

The President also addressed the challenges of poverty, noting that it continues to push some young people onto urban streets in search of livelihood opportunities. He said government initiatives like the Parish Development Model are designed to enable households to participate more actively in the money economy, improving both individual and national prosperity.

Call for community oversight of government programmes

Museveni further urged communities to remain vigilant regarding how public resources are utilised, particularly those allocated under government programmes.

“Elect committees and follow up on the Parish Development Model money so that you know who has received it and how it is being used,” he said, stressing the importance of citizen oversight in ensuring accountability.

The President also cautioned against corruption within public institutions, highlighting concerns over the misuse of government funds and the sale of public jobs.

“Do not tolerate corruption… many government workers are honest, but the few corrupt ones must be exposed,” Museveni said.

In addition, he underlined the importance of expanding infrastructure, encouraging local participation in national projects, and creating a conducive environment for investors as key priorities for Uganda’s continued growth.

Government leaders congratulate Museveni

Vice President Jessica Alupo addressed the gathering, offering congratulations to the President and thanking Ugandans for their role in supporting peace, security, and national development. She also commended Janet Museveni for her contributions to education and national initiatives.

Other government leaders present echoed these sentiments, describing Museveni’s re-election as an endorsement of the administration and a sign of public confidence in the government’s policies.

Religious leaders offer prayers for national unity

Religious participation formed an integral part of the event, with Pastor Robert Kayanja leading prayers for national unity and guidance for the country’s leaders.

“We pray that the Lord will grant the leaders wisdom as they work towards East African cooperation, a common market and eventual federation,” Pastor Kayanja said.

Prayers also focused on food security, economic stability, and the welfare of Ugandan households.

A day of celebration at Kololo

The full-day celebration blended spiritual reflection, cultural performances, and political recognition. High-profile attendees included Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, local government officials, and representatives from cultural and religious institutions.

Supporters filled Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, waving flags, singing, and sharing personal testimonies of support, creating a festive atmosphere that combined gratitude with political enthusiasm.

Event organisers said the “Yoga Yoga Jajja” celebration was not just a marker of electoral success but also a call for continued citizen engagement in national development as Uganda begins a new political term.
