Stop Bleaching And Think Of Competing With Me!! Ex Speaker Kadaga Mocks Anita Among

A heated political and personal spat has erupted in Uganda after former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga advised current Speaker Anita Among to “stop bleaching” in a now-viral video.

The remark, made during a public engagement, has ignited a storm of reactions on social media, with many Ugandans accusing Kadaga of making a personal attack rather than focusing on political issues.

The controversy comes as both women vie for the influential NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) position, currently held by Kadaga.

Supporters and critics have been quick to weigh in online. X user Benjamin Prince mocked Kadaga’s comment, suggesting it was hypocritical.

Mbabali Hussein dismissed the exchange as “kindergarten talk,” while Ongodia Media criticised both leaders for engaging in personal attacks instead of serving Ugandans.

Some defended Kadaga’s stance, arguing that skin bleaching is harmful. “I don’t condone bleaching, it’s really deadly,” Guard Musana posted, though he also urged Kadaga to retire due to health concerns.

Others resorted to sarcasm, with one user comparing cosmetic practices to “using tones of sadoline.”

The incident underscores rising tensions within the ruling NRM as the party heads into internal elections.

Analysts say the personal nature of the spat risks overshadowing policy debates and may deepen divisions among supporters.

Neither Kadaga nor Among has issued a formal statement addressing the online backlash, but the episode has already set the tone for what is expected to be a bitterly contested race.
