NUP MP Nambooze Gets Shs 1 Billion From Museveni!! Speaker Anita Among Leaks Evidence
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has sparked fresh political debate after alleging that Hon. Betty Nambooze, a long-serving opposition Member of Parliament from the National Unity Platform (NUP), received close to one billion Uganda shillings to facilitate specialized medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
Among made the revelation while addressing a presidential campaign rally in Mukono, as political parties intensify their mobilization efforts ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Her remarks immediately drew attention from supporters and critics alike, given the long-standing political rivalry between the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the opposition.
According to the Speaker, the substantial financial support was extended with the full knowledge and backing of President Yoweri Museveni. She explained that the funds catered for Nambooze’s medical care abroad, including travel expenses.

Among further stated that the opposition legislator did not travel alone, but was accompanied by her husband, Mr. Bakireke, as well as a domestic worker.
In her address, Among commended President Museveni for what she described as an extraordinary act of compassion and statesmanship. She emphasized that the assistance was provided despite Nambooze’s consistent and often harsh criticism of the President, the government, and the ruling NRM party on various radio and television platforms.
“I want to thank you for having such a heart,” Among said, referring to the President. “Regardless of the fact that Nambooze has continued to attack and insult you publicly, that does not take away your good heart.”
The Speaker went on to frame the gesture as an example of inclusive leadership, arguing that it demonstrated the President’s willingness to rise above partisan politics.
Speaking emotionally, Among said she was expressing gratitude not only in her personal capacity, but also on behalf of women across the country. She described President Museveni as “not just a leader but a father of the nation,” and concluded her remarks by praying for God’s blessings upon him.

During the same address, Among turned her attention to the broader opposition leadership, accusing them of hypocrisy. She alleged that while opposition figures often benefit from government programs and support behind the scenes, they return to the public arena to aggressively criticize the very system that assists them.
“Opposition leaders should not lie to voters that they don’t benefit from the NRM,” she said. “We work with them and share what little we have, but when they return to the public, they demonize the ruling party for their own selfish interests.”
Among used the moment to reinforce her political message to voters, urging residents of Mukono and Ugandans across the country to rally behind President Museveni.
She called on citizens to turn up in large numbers on January 15 and vote for the incumbent, arguing that he remains the most capable leader to guide the country forward.
By press time, Hon. Betty Nambooze had not publicly responded to the claims made by the Speaker, and no official statement had been issued from her office regarding the alleged funding for her medical treatment.
