NRM Delegates from Terego, Arua District, Arua City, and Madi-Okollo Rally Behind Calvin Echodu for Eastern Uganda Vice Chairperson
NRM delegates from across the West Nile region have rallied their support for David Calvin Echodu in his bid for the position of NRM National Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region. This show of unity took place during a consultative meeting that drew party leaders and members from Terego, Arua District, Arua City, and Madi-Okollo.
Alion Boniface, the NRM Chairperson for Arua District, led the initiative, expressing strong confidence in Echodu’s leadership. He encouraged him to remain committed to the party’s grassroots structures and to emulate the late Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, who was widely respected for his ability to unite people. “We urge you to stand firm with the structural members,” Alion said. “The late Jacob Oulanyah, may his soul rest in peace, was a uniting figure in our region. We hope you will follow in his footsteps.”
Other prominent leaders also backed Echodu, including David Agwara (NRM Chairperson, Madi-Okollo), Amanguru Joice (NRM Chairperson, Arua City), and Alfadeo James (General Secretary, Terego District). These leaders voiced frustration with the current Central Executive Committee (CEC), accusing some members of neglecting the region after gaining office. “The current CEC members have abandoned the people,” they remarked. “We’re ready to bring in new energy and leadership.”
Sarah Onyeru, a former Chief Administrative Officer and parliamentary aspirant for the Terego Woman MP seat, expressed her full support as well. She described Echodu as a kind-hearted and service-driven individual who has consistently worked to uplift communities in Teso. Referring to him as a “business philanthropist,” she said, “Calvin is the kind of leader the President has been waiting for.” She encouraged voters to choose leaders with a proven track record.
Born in Soroti in 1973, Echodu is widely known for his commitment to community service. Addressing the gathering, he pledged to reinvigorate the NRM by focusing on grassroots empowerment. “I will bring fresh energy into the party by building strong local structures,” he said. “We’ll establish Saccos, work directly with communities, and prioritize cadre training and recruitment.”
A Resident District Commissioner (RDC) who previously worked with Echodu in Soroti shared a heartfelt message of support. “Calvin is like a brother. I’ve worked with him and witnessed his leadership and vision firsthand. He has what it takes to move the party forward.”
The meeting concluded with a strong show of unity and agreement around Echodu’s candidacy. Delegates expressed optimism that his leadership would bring renewed focus, inclusiveness, and energy to the NRM and to the Eastern Region as a whole.
