No Kadaga – No NRM!! NRM Elders Blast Anita Among After Attacks On Kadaga As They Battle For The NRM Vice Chairperson Female Seat
A political storm is brewing in the Busoga sub-region after a section of National Resistance Movement (NRM) MPs and local leaders declared full support for First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga in her bid to retain her seat on the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) as the first national vice chairperson (female).
In a bold and symbolic move, the leaders launched a campaign titled “No Kadaga in CEC, No NRM in Busoga,” warning the party leadership that Kadaga’s exclusion would come at a heavy political cost in the region.
The endorsement comes at a time when Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has expressed interest in taking over the influential CEC position, intensifying a high-stakes power contest between two of Uganda’s most prominent female political figures.
The Busoga MPs and politicians said their support for Kadaga was not just personal but rooted in loyalty to a leader who has tirelessly championed the region’s development and unity within the NRM ranks.
The campaign slogan is now gaining traction across districts in the Busoga sub-region, signaling a deepening divide in the NRM over who should represent women at the highest level of the party’s decision-making organ.
Kadaga, a longtime NRM stalwart and former Speaker of Parliament, has remained largely silent on Among’s challenge, but her allies are already mobilizing to ensure she retains the seat, which gives her a key role in shaping the party’s political direction.
A few days ago , Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among spoke out publicly on her bid to retain the Central Executive Committee (CEC) slot for Speaker of Parliament within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), saying she is not targeting her predecessor, Rebecca Kadaga, but is instead being challenged by her.
Speaking during a meeting with supporters from the Busoga Sub-Region, Among addressed swirling rumors that she is “witch-hunting” Kadaga, the former Speaker of Parliament and current First Deputy Prime Minister.
“There is a lot of talk around town that I am witch-hunting my predecessor. That is not correct. I have never contested against the Right Honorable Rebecca Kadaga,” said Among.
“When I stood for Deputy Speaker, I contested against the Right Honorable Thomas Tayebwa. And when I became Speaker following the death of Jacob Oulanyah, I faced Hon. Asuman Basalirwa.”
Among emphasized that the CEC position she is contesting for is customarily reserved for the sitting Speaker of Parliament.
“The position I am standing for is meant for the current Speaker. And by God’s grace, that is none other than Anita Among. Actually, it is the Right Honorable Kadaga — my mother — who is standing against me,” she stated.
Her comments come amid speculation that the race for the influential NRM CEC position has exposed simmering tensions between the two powerful women leaders, both hailing from Eastern Uganda.
Among urged the public to refrain from politicizing the matter, stressing the functional importance of the CEC slot.
