Museveni’s Brother Sodo’s Academic Documents Under Fire – Unqualified To Run For MP Although Nominated
The fiery Mawogola North race has exploded into fresh drama after a rival candidate, Jet John Tumwebaze, demanded to see the academic documents of President Museveni’s brother, Aine Godfrey Kaguta, better known in political circles as Sodo!
In a hard-hitting letter to the Electoral Commission, Tumwebaze — a lawyer and contestant in the same constituency — wants certified copies of every paper Sodo submitted for nomination, hinting at doubts over his qualifications.
“I would like to satisfy myself that the said Mr Aine is qualified to be a Member of Parliament,” Tumwebaze wrote in the letter stamped and received by the EC on Monday afternoon.

The fiery contestant, writing through Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA), invoked the Access to Information Act and Article 80(1)(c) of the Constitution, saying he has a right to confirm whether Sodo truly meets the education requirements for an MP.
The letter has set tongues wagging both in Kampala and in Sembabule, with whispers of another potential nomination scandal looming over the high-stakes seat.
Mawogola North: The President’s Backyard Turns Hot
Mawogola North, nestled in Sembabule District, is no ordinary constituency.
It’s more of a home turf to the First Family — and a political battlefield that has already seen bruising fights among Museveni’s close relatives and allies.
Sodo, who last contested in 2021 and later bowed out for Shartsi Musherure Kutesa, daughter of powerful ex-Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa, is back with renewed fire.
But now, he faces a sharp legal mind in Tumwebaze, who is promising to expose what he calls “any hidden secrets in this nomination circus.”
Legal War Looms
Sources close to the EC say Tumwebaze’s request could open a fresh legal battle, especially if the documents are withheld or reveal irregularities.
“Once he gets those papers, don’t be shocked if court papers follow next,” said a source familiar with the matter. “These are not mere letters — it’s the start of something bigger.”
Efforts to get a comment from Sodo’s camp were futile by press time, but his supporters in Sembabule have dismissed the letter as “panic and cheap politics.”
However, political watchers say this latest twist shows the NRM stronghold is turning into a war zone, where bloodlines and power no longer guarantee an easy ride.

The ball is now in the Electoral Commission’s court. Will they release the documents as requested — or spark a legal storm by keeping them under wraps?
One thing is certain: the fight for Mawogola North has just gone nuclear, and Sodo’s academic papers could soon become the hottest files in town.
