Muhoozi Vows To Arrest Anyone Who Makes Welcome Party For Anita Among, Says Her Issues Aren’t Resolved

Muhoozi warns against celebrations for Anita Among

Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has warned against any celebrations planned for former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, saying security agencies will arrest those involved.

Muhoozi issued the warning in a post on his X account on Tuesday, saying there would be no party for Among, whom he referred to as AAA.

“There will be ABSOLUTELY no party for AAA. We shall arrest anybody involved in that nonsense! Forgiving someone does not mean they do not have unresolved cases,” Muhoozi posted.

His remarks come after Among was released from house arrest following President Yoweri Museveni’s decision to forgive her.

Among had spent weeks under house arrest amid investigations by security agencies into allegations of corruption and financial impropriety.

The investigations came at a time when several parliamentary officials were also facing scrutiny and prosecution over alleged misuse of public funds.

Following her release, Among thanked Museveni for what she described as “parental grace” and said she looked forward to continuing to serve her constituents as the Bukedea Woman MP.

She also expressed appreciation to Muhoozi for what she described as his professionalism during the period.

However, Muhoozi’s latest post suggests that the presidential decision to forgive Among should not be interpreted as automatically resolving all matters surrounding the former Speaker.

“Forgiving someone does not mean they do not have unresolved cases,” he said.

Among’s political standing has also undergone changes in recent months. She withdrew from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament, paving the way for Jacob Markson Oboth Oboth, who was subsequently elected to the position.

The latest warning is likely to dampen plans by Among’s supporters to organise celebrations following her release.

Muhoozi did not specify the unresolved cases he referred to, but his statement signals that the controversy surrounding the former Speaker remains far from over.
