Kalungu man arrested on Minister Ssekindi orders over opinion polls
Mulangila Kimera Philly a resident of Kisanje village Mukoko parish Kalungu District was arrested on Thursday evening on the orders of NRM government Minister Aisha Ssekindi.
The reason for his arrest is attributed to an opinion poll he conducted that indicated that NUP Kalungu district woman MP Zzinga Shakira Namiiro is leading with 56%, followed by the incumbent NRM Minister Aisha Ssekindi who is now an independent candidate with 24%, and lastly the official NRM official flag bearer Nakeeya Hellen Omuyiribi with 20%.
The opinion polls justified why the Honorable Minister Ssekindi lost the NRM party flag to Ms. Hellen Nakeeya. This triggered Hon. Ssekindi who instructed the Kalungu DPC to apprehend and prosecute Mr.Mulangira Philly who had printed a gigantic banner containing the findings of his opinion poll.
“The opinion poll exposed the minister as a weak candidate and settled the question about whether she deserved the NRM flag or not,” one resident who spoke to this publication said under the condition of anonymity in fear of reprisals. “The Minister has been bribing churches and mosques in Kalungu but her silence on the abductions of NUP supporters is what angered many of us. She was also rejected because of the controversial coffee bill that monopolized the coffee to be sold by only Government. So in Kalungu we resolved not to support any NRM candidate,” he added.

The National Unity Platform party deployed Ms. Zzinga Shakira Namiiro as their official flag bearer. She defeated her closest opponent Susan Namatta who was also very popular within the district. The popularity of NUP in Kalungu is a key factor for the party’s candidates to be in the lead of multiple opinion polls.
