Just In!! Opinion Poll Shows Hon Joseph Mukasa Leading Makindye-Ssabagabo MP Race Ahead of Opponents

A recent opinion poll has positioned National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Joseph Mukasa firmly in the lead for the Makindye-Ssabagabo parliamentary seat. The survey, conducted across Namasuba, Masajja, Ndejje, Busabala, Kigo, Mutungo, Mutundwe, Seguku, Kibiri, Zana, Gangu, and Lweza, reflected the opinions of residents throughout the constituency.

According to the findings, Mukasa enjoys 48% support, followed by independent candidate Akram Lutaya at 18%. Incumbent MP David Serukenya comes third with 12%, while Miriam Kaluga (NUP) ranks fourth with 8%. Phillip Munduni of the NRM takes fifth at 6%, and Mahad Kauma (NUP) trails at 4%.

Many voters trust Mukasa for his consistent presence and proven record in addressing community challenges. His campaign slogan, “Service, Equity, and Transformation,” has struck a chord with constituents who want an MP that will represent them effectively and ensure accountability at all levels.

Mukasa is renowned for his community development initiatives and professional expertise. As Executive Director of Holistic Empowerment of the Less Privileged (HELP Uganda), he has trained thousands of youth and women in skills such as tailoring, baking, crafts, metal fabrication, hairdressing, and soap making. He has also partnered with international organizations, including USAID, CDC, UNHCR, the World Bank, and the European Union, to bring development programs directly to communities.

Academically, Mukasa holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from Makerere University, a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Investment, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management. His training in project management, resource mobilization, and donor compliance has enabled him to run large-scale partnerships and deliver impactful programs.

Mukasa first ran for the Makindye-Ssabagabo MP seat in 2011 as an independent candidate but lost. Despite this, he continued to expand training initiatives, support small businesses, and address local issues without holding political office. Residents now see his persistence as proof of his dedication to genuine service rather than self-interest.

Akram Lutaya, now in second place, is viewed as a fresh and dynamic voice but lacks the grassroots network Mukasa has built over the years. David Serukenya has dropped to third, with many residents criticizing him for being distant from community needs despite his contributions such as providing an ambulance and tents. Miriam Kaluga ranks fourth, still gaining recognition, while Mahad Kauma remains at the tail end.

NUP leadership has emphasized that ahead of 2026, performance and capability will determine which MPs receive party endorsements. Underperforming representatives will not be re-endorsed, which strengthens Mukasa’s position given his proven track record and service record.

The poll highlights that voters are seeking a results-oriented leader with both credibility and capability. If current trends continue, Joseph Mukasa remains the clear favorite for the NUP flag in Makindye-Ssabagabo in the 2026 elections.
