JUST IN: NUP’s Muwanga Kivumbi Abducted Hours After Bail Release And Attacks on MK, M7 & Janet

KAMPALA — Uncertainty has gripped supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President Muwanga Kivumbi following reports alleging that the opposition leader was abducted just a day after regaining his freedom on bail.

The claims emerged hours after Kivumbi delivered a strongly worded speech in Butambala, where he criticized President Yoweri Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, while pledging to intensify his campaign against the government.

Information surrounding the alleged abduction remained limited by Friday, and there was no immediate confirmation from the Uganda Police Force or any other security agency regarding his whereabouts or whether he was being lawfully detained.

The former Butambala County MP had only recently returned home after spending seven months in prison. His homecoming attracted thousands of supporters who lined the roads to welcome him, as he declared that his incarceration had only strengthened his determination to continue the opposition’s political struggle.

News of his reported disappearance quickly spread across social media, with NUP supporters and opposition activists demanding answers and calling on security authorities to clarify whether Kivumbi was in state custody.

At the time of publication, neither his family nor members of his legal team had released a comprehensive account explaining the circumstances under which he was reportedly taken. The exact location and individuals behind the alleged abduction also remained unknown.

The reports have fueled fresh political debate because they surfaced shortly after Kivumbi’s outspoken criticism of Uganda’s First Family. However, no official information has been released linking his earlier remarks to the reported incident.

Human rights advocates have repeatedly urged security agencies to uphold constitutional safeguards by promptly disclosing the whereabouts of individuals taken into custody and ensuring they have access to legal representation and their families.

Authorities had not publicly commented on the reports by the time this story was filed.

The situation remains fluid, and this is a developing story. Further updates will follow as verified information becomes available.
