Hon Joseph Mukasa Launches Ambitious Project to Skill 10,000 Youth in Makindye Sabagabo Municipality
Hon Joseph Mukasa, through his leadership at HELP Uganda, has launched a transformative project aimed at equipping 10,000 young people in Makindye Sabagabo Municipality with practical skills over the next two years. The initiative underscores his commitment to creating employment opportunities for the youth and preparing them for today’s dynamic job market. By mobilizing resources from development partners, HELP Uganda will provide both vocational and entrepreneurship training to help young people thrive across various industries.
The program will establish youth training hubs in all eight wards of the municipality — Namasuba, Masajja, Busabala, Ndejje, Mutungo, Seguku, Bunamwaya, and Mutundwe. At these hubs, young men and women will gain market-relevant vocational and employability skills through apprenticeship-based training. Over a period of ten months, participants, especially girls and young women, will learn directly from enterprise owners, gaining hands-on experience in their chosen fields.
Training will focus on high-demand sectors such as the green economy, hotel and tourism, construction, trades and services, and entrepreneurship. Participants will be equipped with the skills to start and manage businesses, plan operations, and develop resilience to overcome challenges. The curriculum includes practical skills such as farming (piggery, cattle, poultry), tailoring, hairdressing, baking, bricklaying, carpentry, motor vehicle maintenance, computer skills, and arts and crafts. Beyond technical expertise, HELP Uganda emphasizes life skills, financial literacy, psychosocial support, and business mentorship to ensure youth are fully prepared for employment or entrepreneurship.
The initiative adopts a gender-inclusive approach, ensuring that training is accessible and responsive to the needs of all youth. HELP Uganda partners with institutions offering inclusive education and actively engages communities and parents in program planning and execution. This holistic approach strengthens trainees’ market awareness and smooths their transition into the workforce or business ownership.
Understanding that many youth-led businesses fail in their first year due to lack of guidance, HELP Uganda provides one-on-one mentorship, group support, financial literacy training, and business starter kits. The program particularly targets marginalized youth and those who have previously undergone vocational or apprenticeship training, helping them transform their skills into sustainable income-generating ventures.
Through this initiative, Hon Joseph Mukasa and HELP Uganda are not just providing skills; they are creating hope, employment, and long-term economic empowerment for the youth of Makindye Sabagabo. By equipping 10,000 young people with the tools to succeed, the project aims to lay the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous community.
