Exclusive!! Why Bobi Wine Refused To Reconcile With Basalirwa—Now He Wants Him To Kill Him Politically
Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa has come out guns blazing, accusing NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) of being a dangerously intolerant politician who would eliminate anyone that stands in his way—if he ever becomes Uganda’s president. According to Basalirwa, Kyagulanyi isn’t just fighting him politically—he wants him destroyed.
“This man will kill or exile every political opponent if he ever captures power,” Basalirwa warned. He believes that Kyagulanyi’s hatred for him stems from petty jealousy over his close alliance with Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.
“I’m convinced that if Kyagulanyi becomes president, I’ll either be assassinated or forced into exile,” he stated without mincing words.
Basalirwa revealed that he once asked a senior NUP official why Kyagulanyi had suddenly turned hostile toward him. The response was shocking: “The principal is uncomfortable with your relationship with the Speaker.”
According to Basalirwa, this alone shows the extent of Kyagulanyi’s intolerance and political immaturity. “Whether he likes it or not, I am an intelligent, seasoned politician. That’s why every Speaker—from Kadaga to Oulanyah to Among—has always found it necessary to work with me.”

He proudly declared that he was among the 10 most influential MPs during the tenures of Kadaga and Oulanyah, and when Anita Among took over, their working relationship only deepened.
“She even made me her personal lawyer for private business—something these jealous NUP noisemakers mock because they can’t match my credentials,” Basalirwa said. “I’m not her bag boy—I’m her lawyer.”
Basalirwa also shredded the narrative that Bobi Wine helped him win the Bugiri Municipality seat in 2018. “That’s pure fiction,” he said. “It was God’s timing after several failed attempts. I had the backing of DP, UPC, and CP’s Ken Lukyamuzi. Bobi just jumped on a moving train after his Kyadondo win. The opposition coalition was already in motion.”
He also threw a bombshell about the origins of the now-iconic “People Power” slogan. “That was my phrase in Lusoga on my 2018 campaign posters. He asked me what it meant, I translated it—and he adopted it as if it were his invention. He’s creative, but let’s not rewrite history,” Basalirwa declared.

Even after repeated personal attacks—including being branded a fifth columnist during a BBC interview and being publicly undermined in Bugiri—Basalirwa said he tried to rise above the drama. “He came to Bugiri and told my people not to vote for me—yet he knows I’m one of the top 10 MPs in Parliament,” he said in disbelief.
Despite not being a NUP member, Basalirwa claims he has consistently respected the authority of Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, for the good of the broader opposition.
But every attempt to reconcile was shut down. “I reached out. I asked questions. I wanted peace. Instead, Kyagulanyi blocked me on phone like a coward. That ended everything.”
Basalirwa now says he’s done trying. The main reason? Kyagulanyi’s ultimatum that he cut ties with Speaker Among. “I won’t betray my alliances just to satisfy his paranoia. Our relationship is finished,” he said. “I’m now focused on 2026, and I’ll ensure the NUP candidate fronted against me in Bugiri is thoroughly crushed.”
He warned that Bobi Wine has a toxic disdain for educated, articulate, and well-dressed politicians. “He doesn’t like intelligent people. But Parliament is not for low-grade, theatrical politics like NUP is offering. It’s for thinkers, lawmakers—not hype men.”
Basalirwa concluded with a blunt warning: Kyagulanyi is part of a calculated plan to destroy Uganda’s Parliament by flooding it with unserious politicians. “But his mission will fail. Ugandans are smarter than he thinks. His intolerant, vengeful politics has no future in this country.”
