Breaking!! Museveni Appoints Former IGG Beti Kamya To Another Big Government Office Weeks After Her Sacking
President Yoweri Museveni has appointed former Inspector General of Government (IGG) Beti Olive Namisango Kamya as his advisor on general duties, barely a month after she exited the ombudsman’s office. The new development marks yet another chapter in the long and eventful public career of one of Uganda’s most outspoken and politically seasoned figures.
Kamya, who served as IGG until last month when she was replaced by High Court judge Aisha Naluzze Batala, now steps into a fresh role at the heart of the presidency—one that sources say comes with benefits reportedly tailored specifically to her appointment. Her transition from the country’s chief ombudsman to a presidential advisor underscores her continued relevance within the upper circles of government decision-making.
The confirmation came during President Museveni’s campaign rally in Bugweri District, where Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda addressed the matter. “Yes, it is true that the President appointed her as his advisor on general duties,” Kirunda said, putting to rest speculation that had been swirling following Kamya’s quiet departure from the IGG office.

According to official correspondence, President Museveni signed the instruments of appointment on October 31 and instructed the Ministry of Public Service to formalise the deployment without delay. The directive suggests the appointment was both deliberate and time-sensitive, perhaps indicating that the President has specific tasks or strategic responsibilities lined up for Kamya.
Ministry of Public Service Permanent Secretary Catherine Bitarakwate confirmed the ministry had indeed received the instruction, though she declined to expand on the details. “As a ministry, we received the Presidential directive about the appointment, and we are simply implementing it; we have no official comment to give,” she stated. Her reserved response has only heightened curiosity about the nature of the new role and the privileges attached to it.
Sources familiar with the matter say the benefits associated with Kamya’s new position are exclusive to her and are not expected to apply to future advisors. This unusual arrangement has fueled discussions within public service circles, with some observers suggesting it reflects Kamya’s long-standing political loyalty and the President’s confidence in her capabilities.

Kamya’s career has seen her occupy several high-profile roles. She served as IGG from July 15, 2021, succeeding Justice Irene Mulyagonja, who held the office from 2012 to 2019. Before that, she was Minister for Kampala and later Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development—positions that placed her at the centre of some of the country’s most contested governance and administrative debates.
Her latest appointment adds to the long roster of individuals currently serving as presidential advisors, a group that continues to grow as Museveni fortifies his inner circle ahead of the country’s shifting political landscape. For Kamya, the new role is both a return to the executive’s frontline and a continuation of her decades-long engagement in national leadership.
