Bobi Wine Is Returning To Uganda!! NUP Confirms When And How
National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine, is preparing to return to Uganda after several weeks of political engagements in the United States, signaling the conclusion of a trip he says was aimed at advancing his party’s agenda internationally.
Speaking at a recent meeting, Bobi Wine said he had completed the work that took him abroad and was now focused on heading back home, stressing that his political struggle remains centered in Uganda.
“My fight is in Uganda and I will go back. I am on the move and on this move the final stop will be Kampala, Uganda,” he said.
“I am in exile. I am not a refugee. I am only bearing characteristics of a refugee, but I am not.”
The opposition leader left Uganda on March 14, stating at the time that he was traveling to promote the National Unity Platform’s “struggle” through engagements with international partners and organizations.

Party officials in Kampala say preparations are underway for his return, although specific details have yet to be finalized.
Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP spokesperson and Leader of Opposition in Parliament, confirmed that the party has maintained close communication with its president throughout his time abroad and is organizing his homecoming.
“He will return and carry on with his responsibilities as party president,” Ssenyonyi said.
He added that logistical details would be shared once confirmed, emphasizing transparency in the process.
“Once the date of the return is confirmed, we shall inform the nation about the time and flight. There is nothing to hide.”
Despite the distance, Ssenyonyi said Bobi Wine remained actively involved in party affairs, participating in meetings and receiving regular updates.
“Our president was far away but we were in touch with him at all times. He attended some of the meetings via video link and we briefed him about everything we did,” he said.
During his time in the United States, Bobi Wine held a series of public and private meetings with political leaders, advocacy groups, and international organizations, in what his allies describe as an effort to build broader support for democratic reforms in Uganda.

On April 17, 2026, he was named among the “Heroes of Democracy” at a gala event in New York City organized by the Renew Democracy Initiative. The ceremony, held at Gotham Hall, brought together global figures recognized for defending democratic values.
Bobi Wine was honored alongside prominent leaders including former United States National Security Advisor John Bolton, Canadian political figure Chrystia Freeland, and U.S. Senator Mark Kelly.
His expected return comes at a time of heightened political activity in Uganda, with analysts suggesting his presence could reinvigorate opposition mobilization efforts.
For now, party officials say further details about his return will be communicated once arrangements are complete, as supporters await confirmation of when he will arrive in Kampala and resume his activities.
