NUP Kalangala Iron Lady Nantayi set to replace Nakimuli
The National Unity Platform party Iron Lady Aisha Nantayi, a former musician has declared her bid to represent the people of Kalangala District following the declaration of a byelection in the event of the death of the incumbent Hellen Nakimuli.
Nantayi, a seasoned freedom fighter and activist believes that she is the ideal person to carry on with the legacy of the fallen Hellen Nakimuli.
“I am the right person for the job. I’m a born of Kalangala District and I have deeply appreciated the ideology of the fallen Hellen Nakimuli. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with her,” she remarked. “I know what’s best for Kalangala and I believe if my party of NUP gives me that chance to hold its flag in this byelection, I will be able to push forward the projects left behind by our fallen MP,” she added.
The Kalangala District woman MP seat fell vacant on April 15th after the death of Hon. Hellen Nakimuli who passed on after an unsuccessful surgery. Her death was a big blow to the NUP which currently has about 50 MPs after the 2026 polls in which the ruling NRM party looted seats at gunpoint. The NUP yesterday declared that it shall effective Thursday this week receive expression of interest forms from interested parties who intend to carry the party flag in the looming byelection slated for June 24th.
