HIGH TENSION!! Besigye’s Ongoing Legal Battles Catch Fire in Parliament as MPs Rage Over Judge’s Recent Ruling

Parliament witnessed intense debate as Hon. Abdu Katuntu strongly criticized the judiciary for its handling of bail applications, particularly in cases involving opposition figures like Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Hon. Katuntu condemned the persistent delays in granting bail, arguing that such postponements amount to a miscarriage of justice.

“Bail is a simple legal matter, yet courts adjourn decisions for two weeks just to grant it. This is madness—unprofessional, illegal, and illogical. Make a decision: grant it or deny it. Simple,” Katuntu remarked in frustration.

His statements come amid growing concerns that the judiciary is being used as a tool to frustrate opposition politicians through prolonged legal battles.

Judiciary Accused of Political Bias

Dr. Kizza Besigye, a veteran opposition leader, has faced multiple arrests and court cases, with his bail applications often delayed for weeks. Katuntu questioned the rationale behind such adjournments, arguing that they undermine justice.

Several MPs joined Katuntu in criticizing judicial inefficiency, emphasizing that justice delayed is justice denied, particularly in politically sensitive cases.

The Opposition has long accused the government of manipulating the courts to weaken its political opponents by entangling them in legal battles.

Call for Judicial Reform

Hon. Katuntu challenged judicial officers to uphold professionalism and fairness in their rulings.

“We address you as lordships and worships, but why hold such titles if you cannot dispense justice?” he questioned.

With Dr. Besigye’s legal battles showing no signs of resolution, pressure is mounting on the judiciary to expedite bail hearings and prevent unnecessary delays that erode public confidence in the justice system.
