Burundo Alex Accused of Using False Identity in Bulambuli MP Race
The race for Member of Parliament in Bulambuli County under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has taken a dramatic twist. A petition has been filed against candidate Burundo Alex, accusing him of using a fake identity and forged academic documents to gain nomination.
The petition claims that Burundo Alex served as the LC III Chairperson of Bukhalu Sub-county, Bulambuli District, from 2001 to 2016. During that time, he was known in all official government records, including salary slips and voter registers, as “Burundo Alex.”
However, in 2015, he allegedly changed his name by deed poll to Burundo Musingo Mungoma Alex. The petitioners believe this change was made so he could assume the identity of another person, Musingo Alex, who had valid academic qualifications. They say Burundo used Musingo Alex’s academic certificates, including UCE and UACE results, to get nominated in the 2016 elections—and again for the upcoming election.
In 2019, he reportedly changed his name again, this time to Burundo Mungoma Musingo Alex. The petitioners say these multiple name changes were part of a plan to make the forged identity appear legal and to hide the truth.
Concerns have also been raised about Burundo’s education background. He claims to have attended Wahanwanyi Primary School from 1982 to 1988. However, the petition says that the school had no UNEB exam center at that time, which means he could not have sat for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) there.
He also claims to have studied at Mbale Secondary School for “O” Level and Aggrey Memorial School for “A” Level. But the petitioners say these schools have no records of him. They believe the certificates he submitted actually belong to Musingo Alex.
The petition accuses Burundo of forgery, impersonation, and presenting false documents—offences that are both criminal and electoral in nature. Petitioners warn that if the NRM does not act fast, the party may face legal consequences. A court could disqualify Burundo’s nomination, which may cost the party the parliamentary seat.
The petition includes supporting documents such as salary slips, voter cards, and gazette notices. It also mentions that former classmates and teachers are ready to testify that the academic papers Burundo used are not his.
This case has raised serious concerns about the need for honesty and accountability in Uganda’s elections. As the NRM Electoral Commission starts its investigation, many are asking: Has Burundo Alex truly earned his place, or is he using someone else’s identity to run for office?
