Breaking News!! 30 People Mercilessly Slaughtered In South Sudan, Here Is What Really Happened

At least 30 people were killed and over 40 others injured when armed youth briefly overran a town in South Sudan’s northern Ruweng Administrative Area earlier this week, a local official confirmed on Thursday. The violence erupted following a cattle raid.

According to Simon Chol Mialith, the region’s Minister of Information, the incident began when the armed group stole livestock but were initially repelled by security forces. However, the attackers returned in larger numbers the next day and launched an assault on the town of Abiemnom.

“Despite efforts by local youth and security personnel to defend the town, they were overpowered by the Mayom armed youth group,” Mialith told AFP.

South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) later intervened on Wednesday and successfully drove the attackers out of the town. Calm has since been restored in the area.

“The death toll has risen to 30, with over 40 others wounded,” Mialith added, though he did not provide further details. Local media reported that some of those killed were members of the attacking group, but this has not been independently verified.

The attack highlights growing instability in South Sudan, where clashes between pastoralist communities and settled farmers are frequent. The incident also comes amid escalating tensions between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and those aligned with First Vice President Riek Machar, raising concerns over the country’s fragile 2018 peace agreement that ended a five-year civil war.

Despite its rich oil resources, South Sudan has struggled with insecurity, political unrest, and poverty since gaining independence in 2011.
