How Ugandans Can Now Get a Canada Visa in Just Hours

In a groundbreaking development for Ugandan travelers, Canada has introduced an accelerated visa application process that allows eligible Ugandans to receive a visa decision in just a matter of hours. This rapid-processing service, part of Canada’s continued efforts to modernize immigration and attract global talent, marks a new chapter in international travel for Ugandans.

The program, officially rolled out in mid-2025, uses advanced biometric verification, digital document review, and AI-powered decision systems to speed up the process that once took weeks or even months. While it is not available to all applicants, it is being piloted in several countries including Uganda, where uptake has already begun.

Who is Eligible?

The fast-track visa service currently applies to certain categories of applicants including:

* Frequent travelers with a history of previous visas to Canada, the U.S., UK, or Schengen countries.
* Ugandan students accepted into Canadian institutions.
* Business travelers attending pre-approved events or meetings.
* Government officials and high-priority professionals.

Applicants must also have a valid Ugandan passport, no prior immigration violations, and clean security and health records.

How It Works

According to officials from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the process begins online. Applicants create an account on the official IRCC website, upload their documentation, and pay the visa fee.

Once submitted, biometric data (fingerprints and photos) are required. In Uganda, the Canada Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Kampala has been equipped with upgraded biometric systems that feed data directly to Canadian processing centers in real time.

“Once biometrics are submitted, decisions are made within 12 to 48 hours for eligible applications,” said Jacqueline Mbabazi, a visa consultant based in Kampala. “Some applicants have received approval emails within hours of leaving the VAC.”

Boost for Travel, Education, and Business

This development is being celebrated by many Ugandans, especially students and professionals. Canada remains a top destination for higher education, with hundreds of Ugandans admitted to Canadian universities each year. The faster visa process removes a major obstacle for students dealing with tight academic deadlines.

“This is a dream come true,” said Brian Lule, who received his study permit just 18 hours after submitting biometrics. “I had already booked my flight, hoping the visa would come in time. I was shocked when I got the approval the next morning.”

Business communities are also applauding the move. Canadian companies are increasingly reaching out to African markets, and the new visa process is expected to strengthen bilateral ties.

Important Considerations

While the fast-track system is promising, authorities urge caution. Several fraudulent agents are already exploiting the announcement to scam unsuspecting applicants. Officials emphasize that the application should only be submitted through the official Canadian government website or approved VACs.

Travel experts recommend using verified consultants or checking government advisories before making any payments.

Looking Ahead

If successful, the pilot program could expand to include more visa categories and additional countries. For Ugandans, it’s a golden opportunity to connect with one of the world’s most welcoming countries — at record speed.
