Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, the Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), has been honoured with the Rotary Award by the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication to national service through quality statistical work and professional excellence.

The Chief Guest, Hon. Mike Sebalu, who also serves as District Governor for D9213 and is a member of the Rotary Club of Bukoto, commended Dr. Mukiza during his remarks, praising him for demonstrating high standards of vocational service consistent with Rotary’s core values of integrity, service above self, and creating lasting impact in communities.

He underscored the importance of statistics in national development, noting that accurate and timely data plays a central role in policy formulation, planning, budgeting, monitoring, and effective service delivery.

“Statistics are not just numbers; they are the foundation of decision-making,” Hon. Sebalu said, emphasizing that institutions such as UBOS are vital in guiding the country toward measurable development outcomes.

He further acknowledged Dr. Mukiza’s leadership as key in strengthening Uganda’s statistical systems and ensuring that national planning is guided by reliable and credible evidence.

Hon. Sebalu also explained the selection process for the award, noting that nominations are proposed by members, reviewed by a board, and finally presented to the general assembly for approval.
He added that Dr. Mukiza has consistently delivered high-quality statistical outputs across all administrative levels, making him a deserving recipient of the recognition. He also noted that Dr. Mukiza is a member of the Rotary Club of Muyenga and a Major Donor.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Chris Mukiza expressed appreciation to the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda for the honour, describing the award as encouragement to continue strengthening Uganda’s statistical systems and ensuring UBOS provides reliable, relevant, and timely data for national development.

“I am truly grateful to the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda for recognizing my service with the Rotary Award,” Dr. Mukiza said. “This recognition reflects not only my personal commitment but also the collective effort of the institution in pursuing excellence.”
He noted that Rotarians apply statistical information to support government initiatives in communities, citing examples such as the blood bank at Mengo Hospital and the cancer unit at Nsambya Hospital, both aimed at improving public health outcomes.

He further emphasized that UBOS has continued to strengthen the country’s statistical ecosystem to ensure consistent availability of reliable data for planning and decision-making.

He encouraged UBOS staff to join Rotary clubs of their choice to broaden their service impact and professional networks, highlighting the shared values between Rotary and statistical service delivery.
The President of the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda, Ann Kamugisa, commended Dr. Mukiza for his leadership, noting that it has enhanced institutional credibility and significantly contributed to Uganda’s development agenda.

She added that under his leadership, UBOS has become a key pillar in national planning, supporting government, the private sector, and development partners.
She further stated that the Rotary Award represents the club’s appreciation of Dr. Mukiza’s outstanding contribution and the positive difference he has made in the lives of many Ugandans.
