UPDF Medical Teams Conducts Over 100 Surgeries in Lyantonde, Lwengo

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) medical teams have successfully conducted over 100 surgeries in Lyantonde and Lwengo districts as part of activities marking the 44th Tarehe Sita celebrations.

According to Lt Col Dr. Godfrey Ngobya, the head of the UPDF medical team in the two districts, the surgical procedures included treatment for hernias, hydroceles, goitres, and enlarged prostates. In addition to the surgeries, more than 1,500 patients received treatment at mobile clinics set up during the outreach.

Dr. Ngobya highlighted that common health conditions encountered included malaria, respiratory tract infections, and urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Hon. Dr. Kagabo Twaha, the Member of Parliament for Bukoto South, praised the UPDF for their commitment to enhancing healthcare in the region.

“Their medical outreach complements existing health services by addressing conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and skin diseases, in addition to performing critical surgical interventions,” Dr. Kagabo said.

He also dismissed misinformation discouraging people from seeking medical help at the UPDF-led camps.

“There were false claims that the UPDF was vaccinating and intoxicating people, which is completely baseless. The UPDF’s role is to protect and serve the nation, and in this case, they are saving lives through medical services,” he stated.

The free medical outreach has provided much-needed healthcare services to the community, ensuring that residents receive essential treatment and surgical care.
