Angry Ofwono Opondo Dares Muhoozi: “I Would Rather Die Than Apologise!”
Ex Government spokesperson and MP Ofwono Opondo has indicated that he is unwilling to apologise to Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba despite an ultimatum reportedly giving him seven days to withdraw his criticism.
Opondo appeared to take a defiant position in his response, declaring that he was ready to face whatever consequences might follow rather than back down.
In a statement that has attracted attention, Opondo said, **“The 7th day will find me at my burial ground,”** seemingly suggesting that the threat of possible repercussions would not force him to change his position.
His remarks come amid an escalating disagreement over Muhoozi’s growing political influence, his presidential ambitions and his involvement in political affairs while serving as head of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

Opondo has been critical of efforts by Muhoozi’s supporters to promote him as a possible successor to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, particularly with references to a potential presidential bid in 2031.
He has questioned the appropriateness of campaigning for Muhoozi’s presidency while Museveni is still in power, suggesting that such activities could be interpreted as a lack of confidence in the sitting President.
The dispute has also reopened questions about the relationship between military leadership and partisan politics, especially regarding the participation of serving military officers in political debates.
Muhoozi has increasingly become a central figure in Uganda’s political discussions, with his public statements, social media posts and activities attracting considerable attention from both supporters and critics.
His supporters have openly advocated for his eventual presidency, while critics have raised concerns about the implications of such campaigns for the country’s political and military institutions.
Opondo’s position is particularly noteworthy because of his longstanding involvement in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) establishment and his role as a government spokesperson.
His apparent unwillingness to comply with Muhoozi’s demand introduces another dimension to the debate, raising questions about whether disagreements within the ruling establishment can be openly expressed without triggering political confrontations.
It also remains unclear whether Muhoozi intends to pursue further action against Opondo or whether the matter could be addressed through private engagements.
For now, Opondo’s response suggests that he is prepared to stand by his criticism, even as the reported seven-day ultimatum puts their disagreement under incr
easing public scrutiny.
