Merciless!! How Female Driver Was Shot By Speaker Anita Among’s Bodyguard For Blocking Way
A woman was shot and wounded on Thursday afternoon in central Kampala after a confrontation with a police officer assigned to the security detail of Anita Among, according to police and parliamentary sources.
According to reports got by Witness Uganda, the incident occurred at around 3:00 p.m. along Mackinnon Road, a high-security corridor in the upscale Nakasero area. The unidentified female motorist sustained a gunshot wound to the hand and was later rushed for medical attention.
Preliminary information from security sources indicates that the woman had just left prayers at All Saints Cathedral and was driving a Toyota Harrier (registration UBQ 038A) when she entered a restricted stretch of road near the Speaker’s official residence. Officers securing the route reportedly instructed her to give way to an approaching convoy believed to be linked to the Speaker.

According to the same reports, the driver did not comply with the directive and instead continued along the road, effectively blocking the convoy’s path. What followed, witnesses and officials say, was a rapid escalation.
In the tense moments that followed, Corporal Humphrey Muhanguzi, identified as a counter-terrorism officer deployed at the residence, released a bullet that struck the driver. The officer was immediately disarmed and taken into custody.
He is currently being held at Wandegeya Police Station as investigations into the shooting continue. Authorities have since recovered the firearm used in the incident, while the victim’s vehicle has been impounded as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Rachael Kawala, spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident but cautioned that details remain preliminary.
“It is true there was a shooting. She was driving a Toyota Harrier UBQ 038A. She was shot by a police officer. I don’t have all the details right now,” Ms Kawala said.

Parallel accounts from Parliament suggest there was a brief confrontation before the gunshot was fired. Chris Obore said the motorist reportedly insisted on using the road despite being advised otherwise, leading to an altercation with the officer at the scene.
Officials emphasized that Anita Among was not at her residence at the time of the incident.
“While en route from Bukedea, where she had attended a family event, the Kampala Metropolitan Police informed the Rt Hon Speaker about an incident that had occurred near her residence,” said Sabiti Joseph.
He added that upon her return to Kampala, Ms Among contacted the victim’s family to express sympathy and offer assistance toward medical treatment.
“She remains in close contact with the family and is actively monitoring the victim’s recovery,” Sabiti said, adding that the Speaker has directed police to expedite investigations and provide accurate information to the public.
Despite these explanations, the incident has sparked renewed public scrutiny over the conduct of security personnel guarding high-profile officials. While authorities point to the driver’s alleged refusal to give way as the trigger for the confrontation, questions remain about whether the use of live ammunition was proportionate in the circumstances.
Critics have also raised concerns over the apparent absence of non-lethal interventions and why what appeared to be a traffic-related standoff escalated so quickly into gunfire. As investigations continue, police say further details will be made public once inquiries are complete.
