Busoga MPs want Kaluya appointed as Commissioner of Parliament
A section of lawmakers from Busoga subregion have today asked the opposition National Unity Platform party to consider the Kigulu South Member of Parliament Andrew Kiiza Kaluya as the ideal choice for the office of the Commissioner of Parliament.
The MPs who held a Friday meeting at Nile Hotel in Jinja unanimously resolved to speak to Makerere Kavule about their desire to scoop a lucrative position for their region.
“We have been supporting NUP overtime and we think this is the best time for our beloved party to also appease the people of Busoga,” said one NUP MP elect who requested not to be put on record. “When the position of Leader of the Opposition goes to Buganda, then we are of the view that even Busoga gets rewarded,” added the MP.
Several political actors and pundits in Busoga are already engaging in radio and TV commentaries rallying the NUP party to give them a position in parliament on grounds that now is the time for Kavule to paint a national character and extend its roots past Buganda.
A senior party official at Kavule reacted on this particular debate, stating that “we shall get there when we cross the bridge but for now our emphasis is on putting the regime to account for the atrocities committed during and after the just concluded general election.” He added that,”we know Hon. Kaluya has delivered and he has indeed served diligently in his portfolio as secretary for mobilization in Eastern Uganda and indeed we are thinking about him.”
