Spies in the Struggle? Inside the Alleged Infiltration of NUP’s Foot Soldiers

According to a Facebook post by blogger Ritah Kaggwa, panic has reportedly gripped foot soldiers of the National Unity Platform (NUP) following internal intelligence claims suggesting that some individuals within the party may be operating as covert spies.

In her post, Kaggwa alleges that the suspected individuals were allegedly paid to closely monitor the movements and activities of NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, alongside party officials and grassroots supporters. The information gathered, she claims, was then reportedly passed on to government security agencies.

One of the individuals named in the post is Denis Mukibi, who is said to be associated with Freedom Boda. Mukibi is accused of allegedly posing as a committed participant in the struggle while secretly sharing sensitive information with security operatives.

According to the blogger, Mukibi maintained close contact with a police officer identified as Afande Mukiibi in the days leading up to the arrest of several NUP supporters in Mbarara.

Kaggwa further claims that during the ensuing chaos, Mukibi reportedly pretended to have been arrested alongside other supporters, only to be quietly released later under unclear circumstances. This incident, she suggests, raised suspicion among party members who later began questioning his loyalty.

The blogger also highlights growing concern surrounding another NUP foot soldier, Sadam Makeebe, who is reportedly battling a severe eye infection that he allegedly sustained during the party’s presidential campaign trail in Fort Portal.

In a video that has since circulated on social media, Makeebe is reportedly seen appealing for assistance, expressing fear that he could permanently lose his eyesight.

According to the post, Makeebe allegedly blames Denis Mukibi for his predicament. He claims that following a bitter fallout between the two, he became a target of security operatives who allegedly sprayed chemicals into his eyes. This allegation has reportedly intensified suspicions among NUP supporters about internal betrayal within their ranks.

Ritah Kaggwa further claims that several other NUP supporters who have previously been arrested have raised similar concerns. These individuals allegedly believe that spies embedded within the party are collaborating with security agencies to sabotage and frustrate what they describe as the broader struggle.

The post concludes by alleging that those accused of spying are reportedly celebrating in Kampala. According to Kaggwa, this comes after what she describes as a failed mission to compromise Kyagulanyi and weaken the party’s internal cohesion.
