Much Hatred!! Mbale Police Boss Filmed Tearing Bobi Wine’s Poster – Shooting NUP Supporters Live – Police Launches Investigations

A fresh wave of political tension has gripped Mbale City following a dramatic confrontation between the Uganda Police Force and supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP). The incident, which involved the reported destruction of campaign posters and the use of live ammunition, has sparked widespread outrage and renewed accusations of political bias by security forces.

On Thursday, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament and NUP spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi, condemned what he described as a deliberate and unjustified attack on the party’s grassroots mobilization efforts. He accused security officers of targeting NUP activities while turning a blind eye to similar actions by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

“This is Mustafa Mulalira, the OC Operations, CPS Mbale City. Our coordinators in Mbale made this poster and took it to our Mbale city office. Mulalira raided them and tore the poster, and his team fired live bullets at them,” Ssenyonyi said in a strongly worded statement that quickly went viral on social media.

Ssenyonyi questioned why opposition supporters were being harassed for openly displaying campaign materials, while NRM supporters seemingly enjoy unfettered freedom.

“Uganda Police, we’ve seen NRM supporters with huge posters of their candidate in different cities and towns. Is it a crime if the poster is for the NUP candidate?” he asked, highlighting what he described as a growing culture of double standards within state institutions.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident unfolded when a group of NUP youth activists attempted to display campaign posters outside the party’s local office. Within minutes, security officers, allegedly led by Officer Mustafa Mulalira, arrived at the scene. What followed was chaos—posters were reportedly torn down, and shots were fired to disperse the gathering crowd.

The Uganda Police Force has since acknowledged the incident, confirming that video clips circulating on social media do, in fact, show officers engaging with NUP supporters and damaging campaign materials.

“The Uganda Police Force has launched an investigation into these allegations, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry,” read an official statement from police headquarters.

Authorities also confirmed that similar incidents had occurred not only in Mbale City but also in Kampala’s Central Business District on September 24, suggesting a broader pattern of enforcement-related confrontations.

While the police maintained that their actions were part of standard enforcement operations, they emphasized that all officers are expected to act within the bounds of professionalism and restraint.

“As a force, we are committed to upholding public order and safety, but this must always be balanced with the rights of all political actors,” the statement added.

However, opposition leaders remain unconvinced. They argue that such repeated incidents are part of a broader strategy aimed at stifling dissent ahead of the 2026 general elections. NUP has long accused the police and other security agencies of being partisan, using the guise of law enforcement to disrupt opposition activities while allowing NRM events to proceed unchallenged.

The latest clash in Mbale has once again exposed the fragile relationship between Uganda’s security forces and the political opposition, raising concerns about the fairness and safety of the upcoming electoral process.

As investigations proceed, all eyes will be on how the Uganda Police Force handles the inquiry—and whether any disciplinary action will be taken against those involved. Meanwhile, opposition supporters are calling for greater accountability and equal treatment under the law as the countdown to 2026 continues.
