Obindu Jackson Takes Lead in Arua Central MP Race
Hon. Obindu Jackson is emerging as the frontrunner in the race for the Arua Central parliamentary seat, according to a recent opinion poll, far ahead of fellow NUP contender Asega Habib Jogo.
Asega, who has run for the seat in three previous elections, has struggled to gain traction, receiving just 85 votes in 2011, 148 in 2016, and 238 in 2021. These results have raised questions about his ability to connect with voters, especially the youth.
Obindu Jackson, in contrast, enjoys 75% voter support. His leadership experience includes serving as Guild President at Kampala International University and heading both the Northern and West Nile Students Associations. He also ran as a Youth MP aspirant for Northern Uganda in 2020/2021, earning a reputation for advocacy and community engagement.
A trained clinical officer and current Bachelor of Laws student at the Islamic University in Uganda, Obindu brings expertise in both health and legal matters. He scored nearly a perfect 40/40 during the NUP vetting process, demonstrating his readiness to serve in Parliament.
Obindu’s campaign has particularly resonated with young voters, who make up 78% of Arua Central’s population. His advocacy for street vendors and commitment to human rights have strengthened his appeal among the community.
With strong voter support, proven leadership, and a focus on youth and local development, Obindu Jackson is well-positioned to win the Arua Central seat and represent his constituents effectively in Uganda’s Parliament.
