Here’s Where Sudhir Ruparelia’s Son Was Heading To At The Time Of The Deadly Accident

Uganda is in deep shock after the tragic death of Rajiv Ruparelia, son of wealthy businessman Sudhir Ruparelia. Rajiv died in a terrible car accident early Saturday, May 3, 2025, just a few hours before he was supposed to attend the wedding of a close friend.

According to reports, the 35-year-old was driving a powerful Nissan GTR sports car when he crashed into concrete barriers at the Busabala Flyover roundabout.

The accident happened shortly after midnight on the Kajjansi–Munyonyo road. Police said the car overturned and caught fire immediately, leaving Rajiv with no chance to survive. Witnesses say the crash was very severe, and the fire was intense.

Veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda, who was close to the family, said Rajiv had just come back from London. He may not have known about the temporary roadblocks that were placed on the road.

Mwenda believes this could have been what caused the accident. He also shared that the car flew through the air before bursting into flames.

At the time of the crash, Rajiv was on his way to join his friend, Jonathan Bahizi Buteera, for a big wedding celebration. Rajiv was one of the seven groomsmen for the wedding that was to be held at All Saints Church in Kampala.

The groom, Jonathan, is the son of former Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera, and the church service was to be led by Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba.

Many people online are blaming poor road signage for the crash. They say the barriers were not clearly marked or lit, making them hard to see at night. Authorities have not yet responded to these complaints.

Rajiv’s death has left his family, friends, and the business community heartbroken.

He was a known rally driver and also served as the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, handling real estate, education, and hotel businesses. He was being prepared to take over his father’s empire one day.
