Masaka Woman MP By-election!! Nameere Mocks Muhoozi , PLU – Says Museveni Made Me Hee Minister, Masaka People Elected Her
State Minister for Local Government and Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere has pushed back against pressure from Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and leaders of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), maintaining that her political mandate comes from President Yoweri Museveni and the voters of Masaka.
Nameere’s remarks come amid a growing public disagreement between her and the PLU leadership, with the political row raising the possibility of a fresh contest for the Masaka City Woman MP seat.
In her latest response, Nameere reportedly reminded her critics that her appointment to Cabinet was made by President Museveni, while her position as Masaka City Woman MP came through the electoral process.
She has also indicated that she is not intimidated by talk of a possible by-election, maintaining that her political support should be traced to the people who voted for her.

The confrontation follows a series of public exchanges involving Nameere, Muhoozi, who is PLU chairman and Chief of Defence Forces, and PLU Secretary General Daudi Kabanda.
On September 16, Muhoozi gave Nameere seven days to apologise to him, warning that she could face consequences if she failed to do so. He had earlier said that a minister who was not serving the interests of Ugandans could be removed from Cabinet.
Kabanda also questioned Nameere’s election and called for a by-election, adding another dimension to the dispute.
However, Nameere’s electoral position is already the subject of a separate court battle.
The Masaka High Court is handling an election petition filed by National Unity Platform candidate Rose Nalubowa challenging Nameere’s victory in the Masaka City Woman MP race. The case is scheduled to proceed after preliminary proceedings before Justice Bernard Namanya.
The dispute dates back to the January 15, 2026 parliamentary election. The Electoral Commission initially declared Nalubowa the winner with 25,443 votes against Nameere’s 20,324.
Nameere challenged the result, leading to a recount supervised by Masaka Chief Magistrate Albert Asiimwe. The recount subsequently declared Nameere the winner with 25,502 votes, while Nalubowa received 23,176 votes.
Nalubowa has challenged the recount outcome in court, arguing that the exercise was irregular and did not reflect the voters’ will. Nameere, through her lawyers, has asked the court to dismiss the petition with costs.
The latest political confrontation therefore comes as Nameere faces pressure on two fronts: a court challenge over her parliamentary seat and a public dispute with sections of the PLU leadership.
Despite the calls for a possible by-election, Nameere has projected confidence in her political standing, stressing the distinction between her Cabinet appointment and her parliamentary mandate.
Her latest remarks could further intensify the disagreement within the political circles surrounding PLU, particularly as the September 23 deadline set by Muhoozi for her apology approaches.
For now, the question of whether a by-election will actually be held remains unresolved. The Masaka High Court case and any subsequent political or legal decisions will determine the next stage of the dispute over the parliamentary seat.
