Thank You M7 For Being My ‘GOD’!! Anita Among Speaks Out After Months Of House Arrest, Reveals Why She Was Set Free
Former Speaker of Parliament also Bukedea District MP Annet Anita Among has today come out to express gratitude and thank President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for forgiving her all her sins committed in the last 5 years when she served as speaker.
Taking to her social media pages, Anita Among thanked Museveni for his parental heart to grant her mercy and releasing her from house arrest where she had been held since 13th May 2026.
“I take this opportunity to thank the Almighty God for the gift of lofe and freedom. My profound and heartfelt appreciation goes to His Excellence, President Yoweri Kaguta, for his unmatched parental grace and decision to grant me mercy”- Anita Among posted.
The former Speaker also didn’t forget her former Friend the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) who announced the news of her released from house arrest. She thanked him for the professionalism he exhibited while holding her inside her Nakasero home for over 100 days.
“I also extend my gratitude to the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Muhoozi for his professionalism through this period”- Anita Among posted
She further revealed that she’ll continue serving her constituents of Bukedea District in that capacity as their Member of Parliament and standing firm with the revolutionary leadership.

Anita Among fell from the pinnacle of authority in just a matter of hours when the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) rescinded their endorsement for her re-election as speaker of the 12th Parliament and instead endorsed West Budama Central MP also former Defense Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth and Thomas Tayebwa as Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
She last appeared in public on 12th May at Kololo for the swearing in of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and on 13th May at Parliament as she appeared for her swearing in as Bukedea Women MP. Since then, she had been held with the confines of her Nakasero home with visitors first seeking permission before meeting her.
Hell broke loose when President Museveni invited Anita Among for a meeting just after his swearing in where he questioned her source of income and her extravagant spending and lifestyle. The meeting came at a time when it had become public that the flashy Bukedea MP had shipped in a Shs3.4billion Rolls Royce from Europe.
What followed after the meeting with Museveni was heightened search operations in all her known residences around Kampala, in Bukedea and her office at Parliament. The operations were lasting not less than 10 hours and officers were seen harvesting several documents, hard cash and gadgets which they carried for custody. All her luxury cars including the Rolls Royce were seized and taken to police headquarters.

Anita Among would later painfully author a post on X formerly twitter where she tearfully dropped out of the Speakership race despite having already spent a lot of money on MPs to have her voted for a second term in the office of the country’s number three. All the other NRM candidates dropped out of the race for Jacob Oboth Oboth who was overwhelmingly voted as the Speaker of the 12th Parliament.
As days passed it became clear that Anita Among was already a candidate for Luzira Prisons having survived a similar storm in 2023 when she took part in the stealing of the Ironsheets meant for the vulnerable people of Karamoja. Despite all the incriminating evidence pinning Anita Among to corruption, illicit enrichment and running cartels inside Parliament, she was not presented before court or charged and will walk away free from any sin.
The once powerful woman who at some time equated her bosses to the Holy Trinity of the Catholic Faith she professes, referring to Museveni as God the Father, his son Muhoozi as God the Son and the voters as God the Holly Spirit missed out on Museveni’s cabinet list and was only consoled by her party NRM with a committee member position on the Presidential Assurance Committee Chaired by her sworn-enemy Francis Zaake whom she forcefully removed from the Parliamentary Commission as a Commissioner.
After Muhoozi revealing that Anita is now a free woman, he also revealed that she’ll not be charged despite the mistakes she made during her tenure as Speaker of Parliament of the 11th Parliament.
As she returns to Parliament as a common legislator, Anita Among finds her blue-eyed Boy also director of Communications at Parliament Chris Obore already interdicted and currently on remand with 6 others on charges of corruption, embezzlement and money laundering. The six seem to be the sacrificial lambs suffering for her sins.
She joins a list of other politicians involved in high profile corruption cases who have been forgiven by President Museveni who has always vowed to fight corruption but his stance normally ends in forceful resignations, forced leave or even withdraw of charges against those already in courts yet in the long run he gives corruption another lease of life to continue taking centre stage in not only politics but the entire backbone of the country’s affairs.
Ugandans are now left with fuming questions, if Museveni can forgive Anita Among whose conduct and sins are well known to the public, why not forgive all political prisoners whom majority their only crime is speaking against the injustices in the country and supporting the opposition?
