ZAMBAALI FIRES UP ELECTRICITY PUSH!! Nansana MP Pressures Energy Ministry Over Power Gap in Matugga

Nansana Municipality MP Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa has intensified his push for improved electricity access in Matugga and surrounding areas, putting pressure on the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to address what he described as a major obstacle to industrialisation.

Zambaali raised the concern during discussions on rural electrification, arguing that Matugga, despite its potential to become an important industrial and economic centre, continues to face serious electricity challenges.

The legislator said he directly forwarded his complaint to the Minister of State for Energy, Sidronius Okaasai, drawing attention to the lack of reliable electricity infrastructure in Matugga.

“Yesterday we were still at rural electrification, and I forwarded my complaint to the minister on Matugga, a virgin place for industrialization that has no electricity,” Zambaali said.

“Hon. Minister, Uganda has invested heavily in electricity generation, yet many citizens still complain about affordability, unreliable supply and lack of access. Nansana Municipality is a rapidly growing urban area, yet residents and businesses continue to suffer from prolonged power outages, delayed fault response and challenges with new connections like Kaaso, Migadde, Kingidde, in Gombe divisions and areas of Busukuma divisions. What is the Government’s comprehensive plan to ensure that increased generation translates into reliable, affordable and accessible electricity for every Ugandan.”

His intervention immediately received a response from Okaasai, who, according to Zambaali, acknowledged that the problem is real and one he understands personally.

The minister reportedly told the MP that he also resides in Matugga and is therefore familiar with the electricity challenges affecting the area.

Okaasai further informed Zambaali that Matugga is among the areas being considered for electricity expansion, alongside parts of Busukuma.

“Hon Minister for Energy Okaasai was quick to tell me that he also resides in Matugga and he knows the problem,” Zambaali said.

He added that Matugga had been placed on the list of areas expected to benefit from planned interventions, together with areas in Busukuma.

The development has been welcomed as an important step for residents and businesses in the area, particularly given Matugga’s potential to attract factories, workshops, businesses and other investments.

Zambaali’s approach also highlights the importance of legislators taking local concerns directly to responsible ministries instead of merely raising complaints without pursuing practical solutions.

The Nansana MP has increasingly positioned himself as a vocal advocate for issues affecting his constituents, particularly infrastructure, transport, electricity and economic development.

His latest intervention demonstrates why active parliamentary representation matters. By taking the electricity complaint directly to the minister and demanding attention for Matugga, Zambaali has ensured that the concerns of residents are placed firmly on the government’s agenda.

For a rapidly developing area, electricity is more than just a household necessity. Reliable power can determine whether investors establish factories, whether small businesses expand and whether communities can create sustainable employment opportunities.

Zambaali’s description of Matugga as a “virgin place for industrialization” therefore carries a wider message: without adequate electricity, the area’s economic potential risks remaining largely untapped.

With the minister now acknowledging the challenge and indicating that Matugga and parts of Busukuma are being considered for electrification, residents will be watching closely to see whether the commitment translates into actual infrastructure on the ground.

For now, Zambaali deserves credit for keeping the pressure on. Rather than allowing Matugga’s electricity challenge to remain another forgotten complaint, the MP has taken the issue directly to the people responsible for fixing it—and secured an important response.
