My Party NRM Has Used & Dumped Me!! Chris Obore Breaks Down in Court, Says He Is Being Betrayed Despite Loyalty to NRM
Parliamentary Director of Communication and Public Affairs, Chris Atiku Obore, has made an emotional appeal before the Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday, telling the court that he had dedicated his life to supporting the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and could not understand why he was now facing criminal prosecution.
Obore, who is jointly charged with other suspects in the ongoing investigation into the alleged mismanagement of Shs27.2 billion at Parliament, pleaded with the court to grant him bail, saying his continued detention was causing immense hardship to both his family and employees.
Addressing the court before he was remanded, Obore described himself as a humble man who had remained loyal to the government throughout his public life.
“I am Chris Atiku Obore, a son of a peasant and a hardworking patriot. I have supported NRM all my life. What comradeship is this? Why am I being paid back like this? I left the opposition and I stopped criticizing the government. I should be granted bail, your worship. I have a family to feed and so many employees whose families survive on me,” Obore told the court.
His emotional remarks briefly shifted attention from the legal proceedings to the personal toll the case has taken on the veteran communications official.
The prosecution alleges that Obore and his co-accused were involved in offences relating to the alleged loss of public funds at Parliament. The charges include embezzlement, money laundering and causing financial loss in connection with approximately Shs27.2 billion. The accused persons have denied wrongdoing.
During the bail hearing, Obore urged the court to consider his personal circumstances, arguing that he has a permanent place of residence, substantial responsibilities, and would comply with any conditions imposed by the court if released.
He further emphasized that many people depend on him financially, saying his incarceration had disrupted the livelihoods of employees whose families rely on his businesses and income.
Despite the appeal, the court remanded Obore as proceedings in the case continue. The prosecution has maintained that investigations are still ongoing and has previously informed the court that inquiries into the matter are at an advanced stage.
The case has attracted significant public attention because it concerns allegations involving billions of shillings allegedly lost from Parliament, one of Uganda’s most important public institutions.

Obore’s remarks have since generated widespread discussion on social media, with supporters expressing sympathy over his emotional plea while others argued that the legal process should be allowed to proceed independently, regardless of political affiliation or public office.
Legal analysts note that an accused person’s political history or party membership does not determine the outcome of criminal proceedings, which are decided based on the evidence presented before the court. Under Uganda’s Constitution, every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The Anti-Corruption Court is expected to continue handling the matter as investigations progress, with prosecutors expected to present further evidence in support of the charges.
For now, Obore remains on remand as the high-profile corruption case continues to unfold, with the outcome likely to be closely watched by both the public and stakeholders in Uganda’s governance and accountability institutions.
