“I Have A Right To Kill Bobi Wine and Arrest All Opposition Members” Muhoozi Kainerugaba Rants

“I Have A Right To Kill Bobi Wine and Arrest All Opposition Members” Muhoozi Kainerugaba Rants

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has made a series of controversial public statements regarding opposition figures, including former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who is currently being held on remand at Luzira Prison on charges of misprision of treason.

Through several posts published on his X account, Gen. Muhoozi commented directly on Lukwago’s legal troubles and suggested that the opposition politician would remain incarcerated.

“Lukwago has been craving my attention for decades. He has it now. He is in prison and he will never come out,” Muhoozi wrote in one of the posts.

The military chief also asserted that his position as Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces grants him authority to arrest political opponents. Responding to critics questioning his role, he stated: “Those who ask me how I can arrest Lukwago and keep him in my basement? I answer that as CDF I have every right to arrest anyone especially members of the opposition. I am going to continue to crush them until no one will remember who they were.”

The comments have drawn renewed attention because they come shortly after Lukwago’s arrest by security operatives at his residence in Wakaliga, Kampala. His detention on Monday sparked concern among supporters and sections of the legal community after reports indicated that his whereabouts were initially unknown before he later resurfaced in official custody.

Lukwago was subsequently produced before the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where prosecutors charged him with misprision of treason. The offence generally relates to allegations that an individual had knowledge of purported treasonous activities but failed to report them to the relevant authorities.

According to the prosecution, Lukwago allegedly possessed information concerning an alleged plan to overthrow the government but did not disclose it as required by law. He denied the charge when it was read to him in court.

Following the court appearance, the magistrate ordered that Lukwago be remanded to Luzira Prison until June 22, 2026, when he is expected to return to court for mention of the case as investigations continue.

Gen. Muhoozi also used his social media platform to make remarks about Uganda’s broader political landscape. In one post, he proposed that opposition politicians should join the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), writing: “I propose all the opposition joins PLU and we capture Parliament for Jesus Christ and the holy blood of the Bachwezi!”

In another statement directed at opposition figure Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine and referred to by Muhoozi as “Kabobi,” the CDF issued a warning regarding his return to Uganda. “Kabobi, is only allowed to return to Uganda via Nairobi and with Kenya Airways. If he attempts to enter the country by any other means he and his facilitators will be killed,” Muhoozi posted.

The remarks have added to ongoing debate over political rhetoric in Uganda, particularly when expressed by senior state officials on public platforms. They also come amid heightened political tensions involving opposition leaders and security agencies.

As of publication, there has been no official indication that Gen. Muhoozi’s social media statements constitute government policy or that any additional legal action has been taken against Lukwago beyond the charges currently before the court. Similarly, authorities have not publicly announced any measures connected to the comments concerning Bobi Wine’s travel.

Lukwago’s case remains before the courts, and his next appearance is scheduled for June 22, when prosecutors are expected to provide an update on the progress of investigations. Legal observers continue to monitor the proceedings closely, while reactions to Gen. Muhoozi’s online statements have continued to generate discussion across Uganda’s political landscape.
