Ex Kiboga woman MP to bounce back in EALA under NUP

Former Kiboga District woman Member of Parliament Hon. Kaaya Christine Nakimwero is not about to hang her boots in the political arena, after confirming to this publication that she will vie for the East African Legislative Assembly seat under the opposition National Unity Platform party.

Hon. Kaaya, an exceptional leader with a blossoming legacy within Kiboga and the Parliament of Uganda is rated amongst the best performers of the preceding House. Basing on her credibility and performance, the people of Kiboga who had backed her in 2021 to oust ex Minister for Energy Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu had added her another term in the just concluded 2026 polls but her victory was grabbed and overturned by Gen. Salim Saleh’s daughter, a one Desire Muhooza who has just been crowned a Minister in the 2026/31 cabinet.

Realizing that she stands no chance to appeal to the judiciary which is equally controlled by the First Family, Hon. Kaaya has opted to aim for the EALA polls which shall be held in October 2027.

Apparently, the EALA constitutes 9 slots, 6 of which are occupied by MPs from the ruling NRM party while two are unfairly shared by the opposition parties and one slot goes to the independent. Since its arrival on the political scene, the NUP has refrained from participating in the EALA polls for reasons that they have attributed to patronage and unfairness in distribution of slots. However, odds are high that this time around they could participate in the EALA contest just as they did with the twelfth parliamentary Speaker polls where they backed Jinja South East MP Paul Mwiru and Hoima City woman MP Nyakato Asinasi as his Deputy. Given her personality and loyalty to the party, Hon. Kaaya Christine Nakimwero stands a high chance to attract the weight of the NUP party.
