Medic eyes top Kalangala woman MP seat under NUP

With just a few weeks left to the byelection for the Kalangala District woman Member of Parliament, another young vibrant medical professional, Dr. Nakitende Mary has come out to seek the NUP flag to carry on the mantle to represent the Islanders.

The seat for Kalangala woman MP fell vacant upon the sudden death of the incumbent Hellan Nakimuli, the blossoming leader of the islands. Dr. Nakitende Mary, a graduate of Medicine and Surgery believes she can carry the mantle and possibly advance the agenda of the deceased leader. Who is Dr. Nakitende?

Biography of Dr. Nakitende Mary

Dr. Nakitende Mary is a 30-year-old Ugandan medical professional, community leader, and aspiring Woman Member of Parliament Kalangala District. She is a committed and passionate advocate for community development who has consistently demonstrated leadership, service, and a strong commitment to improving the lives of the people.

She was brought up at her parents’ home. The parents are Mr. Lubega Gregory and Mrs. Namukasa Mary who are residents of Buyoga –Bujumba village in Kalangala District . She is a proud native and a duly registered voter in Kalangala. She began her education at Gregorian Nursery School-Buyoga , continued to Kinyamira Primary School and later sat for the Primary Leaving Examinations at Kibaale Primary School. She Obtained the Uganda Certificate of Education from Masaka Exodus and the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education from Kabowa High School. She went on and pursued a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Kampala International University.

Dr. Nakitende has served her community through voluntary medical work at Kalan gala Health Centre IV. She is currently advancing her expertise by pursuing a Masters of Medicine in Pathology at Makerere University, reflecting her commitment to professional excellence and better healthcare delivery.

Beyond hwr medical career, she is an active and committed political leader, a member of the National Unity Platform, where she is serving as the mobilizer for professionals on the Mobilization (Kunga) Committee for Bujumba Constituency . Her leadership has been instrumental in strengthening community engagement and political awareness. She is also serving as the Youth Female Councillor for Bujumba Parish, advocating for youth empowerment, women’s participation, and community development.

Dr. Nakitende is driven by a vision of promoting sustainable community development in Kalangala District ,improve healthcare , empower young people and laying community level strategies on how to generate and strengthen cash flow among people . As an aspirant for the position of Woman Member of Parliament Kalangala District, she is committed to representing her people with integrity, compassion, and a strong voice for change.
