BREAKING!! Nile Star Bus Slams Into Truck At Karuma, Everyone Feared Dead

A pre-dawn highway collision involving a passenger bus and a heavy truck has left several people feared dead in northern Uganda, according to a report by New Vision.

The crash occurred along the Pakwach–Karuma road, a key transport corridor linking the West Nile region to central Uganda. The bus, operated by Nile Star and bound for Kampala, had departed from Arua City when it was involved in the accident at approximately 1:00 a.m. on May 4, 2026.

The exact circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear, but early accounts indicate the bus struck a heavy truck traveling along the same route.

Authorities have yet to release an official death toll, but multiple fatalities are feared. Emergency responders arriving at the scene found extensive damage to both vehicles, with survivors reportedly trapped inside the wreckage.

Rescue teams worked through the early hours to extract victims and provide first aid before transporting the injured to nearby health facilities.

Medical personnel at regional hospitals confirmed receiving several casualties, some in critical condition. “Rescue teams rushed several injured passengers to nearby hospitals for treatment,” New Vision reported, citing responders at the scene. The full extent of injuries is still being compiled as families seek information about relatives who may have been on board.

Police and emergency services cordoned off the area as investigations began. Traffic along the route was temporarily disrupted while responders cleared debris and secured the site. Officials said a detailed assessment is underway to determine the cause of the crash, including whether speed, visibility, or mechanical failure may have played a role.

“Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of deaths,” the report added, noting that identification of victims could take time given the severity of the impact. Investigators are expected to interview survivors and review any available evidence from the scene as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The Pakwach–Karuma stretch has previously been flagged by road safety advocates as a high-risk section, particularly for long-distance night travel. Poor visibility, fatigue among drivers, and heavy cargo traffic are often cited as contributing factors in accidents along the corridor.

As the investigation continues, police have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during overnight journeys. The tragedy adds to growing concerns over road safety in Uganda, where fatal crashes remain a persistent challenge despite increased enforcement efforts.

Further updates are expected as officials verify casualty figures and notify next of kin.
