Kampala’s Rich and Powerful Line Up Behind Muhoozi’s “Run for Hope”, Sudhir Gives Shs 100M
Tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia has committed UGX 100 million through the Ruparelia Foundation to support Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s “Run for Hope,” as momentum builds around the high-profile charity event scheduled for April 26, 2026, at Kololo Independence Grounds.
The contribution, confirmed by organisers at the Patriotic League of Uganda offices in Kampala, was made through the bulk purchase of running kits tied to the inaugural birthday run held in honour of the Chief of Defence Forces. Organisers say the initiative is designed to merge public fitness with philanthropy, while reinforcing themes of national unity.
The run, now in its first edition, blends fitness, philanthropy, and patriotism, with proceeds earmarked for baby homes and vulnerable children across Uganda. According to organisers, demand for participation kits has surged in recent weeks, reflecting growing interest among both corporate players and political figures.
Sudhir’s UGX 100 million pledge places him among the leading contributors to the cause, matching a similar donation made earlier by Speaker of Parliament Anita Among. Among reportedly purchased 5,000 running kits worth the same amount for students of Bukedea Comprehensive School, in what organisers described as a push to involve youth in national causes.

Other notable contributors include former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, National Resistance Movement Vice Chairperson for Buganda Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, and Head of the Office of the NRM National Chairman Hadijah Namyalo. All reportedly purchased running kits worth millions of shillings, further swelling the fundraising pool.
Institutional backing has also been significant. The NRM Secretariat contributed Shs30 million toward the initiative, while Secretary General Richard Todwong added a personal contribution of Shs10 million. The Uganda Communications Commission also injected Shs20 million, underscoring the event’s widening support base.
Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps, Hellen Seku, said more than 600,000 trained patriots across the country had been mobilised to take part. “This run will not only improve our physical well-being but also touch people’s lives,” Seku said, describing the event as promoting charity, health, and national cohesion.

This year’s edition is themed “Run for Greening Uganda: An MK Climate Change Mitigation Plan,” aligning the event with environmental advocacy. Sharifah Buzeki, Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority, told participants that the greening campaign would prioritise tree planting, restoration of public parks, and protection of open spaces within the capital.
The 10-kilometre race was flagged off by Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of the Land Forces, who served as Guest of Honour. He noted that Gen. Muhoozi had been unable to attend due to pressing official duties.
Organisers have cautioned the public against fraudsters, urging that all legitimate contributions be channelled through officially designated mobile money platforms. They specifically directed donors to MTN MoMo number 55445766 and Airtel line 4405201.
With thousands expected to converge at Kololo, the run is shaping up to be one of the largest patriotic gatherings on Uganda’s calendar this year—an event organisers say will showcase not only civic participation, but also a collective commitment to social responsibility.
