Ggaba School Killer Suspect Has No Crime – America Declares Evidence
Fresh testimony has emerged from the ongoing High Court mobile session in Ggaba, adding a new dimension to the investigation into the killing of four toddlers at a local daycare centre earlier this month.
Appearing before court on Tuesday, Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police Eserait James told the court that authorities in the United States found no criminal record linked to the prime suspect, Christopher Okello Onyum.
Eserait, who serves as the Division CID Officer at Kabalagala Police, testified that Ugandan investigators, acting through the office of the deputy CID director Beyata Chelimo, formally contacted the American embassy in Kampala to request background information on Okello, who previously lived in the United States.

“The report from the Americans indicated that the embassy had no known criminal offence in their records regarding Okello,” Eserait, who headed a team of investigators into the toddlers’ murder, testified.
Returning to the stand for a second consecutive day, the detective further told court that investigators sought to confirm the authenticity of two American passports recovered from Okello’s rented residence in Kyanja.
“The two passports were genuinely issued to him,” he said.

In additional testimony, Eserait disclosed that police also reached out to the Chief Licensing Officer at the Ministry of Works and Transport to determine whether the suspect held a valid driving licence. This line of inquiry followed findings that Okello had driven himself from Kyanja to Ggaba on the eve of the alleged attack.
“The response indicated that he only had a learner’s permit, which had expired at the time,” he told court.
Led in evidence by Chief State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya, the witness added that investigators also scrutinized Okello’s bank accounts as part of broader efforts to understand his financial standing and lifestyle patterns.
Further, the 15th prosecution witness said the American report submitted to the Inspector General of Police indicated that U.S. authorities had no record or knowledge of any mental health challenges linked to Okello.

Okello is facing four counts of murder in connection with the alleged fatal stabbing of toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre. He has since denied all charges.
The trial, being conducted in a community setting at the Ggaba Community Church playground, is presided over by Alice Komuhangi Khaukha. Proceedings have continued to draw significant public attention, driven both by the pace of the hearings and their proximity to the community directly affected by the killings.
