Shocking!! 53 Ugandan Students Still in Iran as 43 Successfully Airlifted Home
A total of 53 Ugandan students are still in Iran as authorities step up measures to ensure their safe evacuation. This follows the successful rescue and departure of an initial group of 43 students who have already left the country.
The first group, comprised of students pursuing their studies at Ahlul Bayt International University, was evacuated through a joint effort led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Uganda, working closely with Uganda’s diplomatic missions in Tehran and Ankara. Their departure marks a significant milestone in the ongoing repatriation process.
According to officials, the evacuated students are scheduled to land in Kampala aboard Ethiopian Airlines, where they will be reunited with their families after days of uncertainty.

Meanwhile, 53 other Ugandan nationals remain in Iran. These students are currently enrolled at the University of Qom. Government representatives have indicated that preparations for their evacuation are in progress, with logistical arrangements being carefully organized to ensure their safety.
The evacuation efforts come against the backdrop of rising tensions and instability across parts of the Middle East. The evolving security situation has disrupted daily life and complicated international travel within and around Iran, making evacuation operations more challenging.
Airspace closures and heightened safety precautions have further slowed the process, requiring detailed coordination between Ugandan diplomatic officials and authorities in Iran as well as neighboring countries. Despite these obstacles, the Ugandan government has reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens abroad.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have reassured parents and guardians that the matter remains a top priority. Continuous communication is being maintained between Uganda’s embassies and relevant Iranian institutions to expedite safe passage for the remaining students.
Relatives of those still awaiting evacuation have voiced understandable concern but remain optimistic that the second group will soon return home safely.
This situation underscores the vital responsibility carried by Uganda’s foreign missions during times of international crisis, especially when the wellbeing of young citizens pursuing education overseas is at risk.
