EXCLUSIVE: NUP urged to reward Busoga with Parliamentary Commissioner office

The lingering debate across the airwaves of all radio stations within Busoga sub region are about whether the opposition National Unity Platform party, which they have wholeheartedly supported since inception will this time around appreciate their efforts and reward them with at least one lucrative position of the Office of the Commissioner of Parliament.

Bamu Lulenzi, a former NUP supporter believes that now is the time for Kavule to make some efforts to paint a national character for their party by extending their appreciation to Busoga sub region which has this time around voted for at least 8 candidates of the umbrella symbol, a figure quite higher than one whom they previously had in 2021. “We are closely watching Kavule to see if this time they will appreciate our sacrifices as the people of Busoga. We have supported NUP from the word go,” he says. “At least we shall be very delighted to see that one of our Members of Parliament is appointed for the position of Commissioner of Parliament,” he adds.

Despite the election malpractice that largely characterized the 2026 polls, NUP was able to sweep at least 8 seats in Busoga. Previously in 2021, NUP only had one MP from the entire Busoga sub region and that was the Jinja City woman MP Hon.Manjeri Kyebakutika. However, the 2026 wave seems to have been more vibrant and added NUP extra seats within Busoga and these include the Kigulu South seat occupied by Andrew Kiiza Kaluya, the NUP Secretary for Mobilization in Eastern region, Paul Mwiru of Jinja South East (Crossed from ANT), Timothy Batuwa of Jinja South West (Crossed from FDC), Hussein Muyonjo Swengere of Jinja North, John Odwori of Kagoma North, Jamal Mukuve of Bukooli North, Abed Nasser Mudiobole of Iganga Municipality, and Sarah Lwansasula of Jinja City woman MP.

Political pundits who are sitting on various TV channels are already urging the Kavule establishment to at least consider sacrificing one lucrative position of the office of the Commissioner to the Busoga region and retain the one of the Leader of the Opposition in Buganda where the party enjoys the biggest support.
