SAD!! Nyege Nyege Starts In Tears As Police Officer Dies In Kalagala Falls
A tragic and deeply unsettling incident unfolded at Kalagala Falls along the River Nile in Kangulumira Town Council, Kayunga District, on the morning of 21st November 2025, claiming the life of a young and dedicated police officer.
According to reports, police personnel had been deployed at the scenic yet notoriously dangerous Kalagala Falls to provide security for revelers attending the ongoing Nyege-Nyege Festival.
The festival, known for drawing thousands of visitors, had prompted a heightened security presence in the area.
At around 8:30 a.m., PPC Alar Andrew, a 24-year-old officer attached to the Counter-Terrorism unit, went to the riverbank to bathe alongside colleagues before beginning the day’s duties. What began as a routine moment of refreshment quickly turned into disaster.
During the bath, PPC Komakech, another officer at the scene, reportedly slipped from a stone and fell into the fast-moving waters of the Nile.

In an instinctive act of bravery, PPC Alar Andrew immediately attempted to rescue his colleague. However, the river’s powerful currents—well known for their unpredictability—overwhelmed him. Despite his effort to save PPC Komakech, Andrew tragically drowned and was swept away by the force of the water.
Police authorities, led by D/SP Kemigisha Nusura, confirmed that inquiries into the tragic occurrence began immediately after the matter was reported at Kangulumira Police Station at 9:20 a.m. Officers swiftly visited the scene, cordoned off the area, and recorded statements from eyewitnesses who had witnessed the harrowing moment.

As of the latest update, police indicate that the body of PPC Alar Andrew is still submerged in the river, and recovery efforts are ongoing. The force has assured the public that any new developments will be communicated promptly.
This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over the festivities and serves as a sobering reminder of the immense risks posed by strong river currents. Even trained officers, equipped with discipline and physical endurance, can fall victim to the untamed power of nature. It also highlights the need for heightened caution near riverbanks, especially in areas known for treacherous waters.
Authorities, colleagues, and festival-goers alike continue to mourn the loss of a courageous officer whose final moments were spent in an attempt to save another.
