“Bobi Wine Can’t Win Museveni In An Election” Chameleon Reveals Why
In a bold and controversial political move, legendary Ugandan musician Joseph Mayanja, popularly known as Chameleone, has publicly thrown his weight behind President Yoweri Museveni ahead of the highly anticipated elections. Known for his influence in the entertainment industry and his past flirtations with politics, Chameleone’s endorsement is making waves across both musical and political circles.
The veteran artist, who has long been a dominant figure on Uganda’s music scene, has recently taken a hands-on role in mobilizing support for the incumbent president. From city centers to rural communities, Chameleone has been actively campaigning, urging Ugandans to rally behind Museveni’s continued leadership.
In a candid and somewhat fiery interview with US-based Ugandan YouTuber Omubbi Masembe, Chameleone didn’t hold back when speaking about his longtime friend and fellow artist, Bobi Wine—now a prominent opposition figure and leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP). Chameleone challenged the depth of Bobi Wine’s political influence, claiming that much of his support is superficial.
“The people who follow Bobi Wine are not voters. Those are just his fans who come to see him as a music star. He has no voters across the country,” Chameleone said during the interview, sparking instant debate online.

According to Chameleone, Bobi Wine’s rise in politics is more about celebrity status than genuine political traction. He argued that while Bobi Wine enjoys massive popularity due to his successful music career, this does not necessarily translate into political support where it truly matters—at the ballot box.
He elaborated on this point further, emphasizing the distinction between fame and influence in governance: “Fame and political support are two different things,” he noted, underlining his belief that charisma on stage doesn’t automatically make one an effective or electable leader.
Interestingly, despite the harsh critique, Chameleone made it clear that there is no personal animosity between him and Bobi Wine. He insisted that his comments were based on political realities, not personal rivalry.
He said he holds no grudge against the NUP leader and even extended well wishes to him on his political journey.
This statement reflects a tone of mature political discourse, even in the midst of ideological differences.

Chameleone’s public support for Museveni isn’t entirely surprising to close observers, especially given his previous affiliations with the ruling party. However, the timing and direct criticism of Bobi Wine—a key challenger to Museveni—has reignited debates about celebrity involvement in politics and the authenticity of support among Uganda’s youth.
As the election date inches closer, the intersection of music, politics, and personal allegiance continues to shape Uganda’s dynamic political landscape. One thing is certain: Chameleone’s voice, both as a musician and now as a political influencer, remains loud and impossible to ignore.
